Great, so my computer breaks down. Among my problems is this stupid
army builder. Guess what? I can't use it on another computer for
ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY DAYS! This is a useless program. I suggest
no one wastes the money.

Instead of being so imbigious how bout some more information. What data
files are you useing and what is the problem?

actually you can... they say in the readme for the licensing that the
default time out is just that... the default. If you've had strange issues
email them, they can fix it.

Someone please explain this predicament to me, I don't understand. How does
the key know it's already been installed and all that? And why the 4 month
delay?

Thanks,

Because the key needs to be varified online. When you buy the
program, it tells you to buy it so that you can use Army Builder on
all of your computers, except you can only install it on one
computer every 120 days, which means that if you lose your computer
somehow, you need to buy a new copy, or wait 120 days.

Personally, I have a game in three days, and I'm not even close to
the 120 day mark. I wish you guys had some compitition, because
you'd be out of buisness fast.

You can get a second Liense for Free, this will allow
you to get it installed on a 2nd computer or the same
one if you had to reformat or clean house.

I am assuming you bough AB3, installed it on your
computer and then your computer crashed. Causing you
to go through this.

Not likely. Did you even try contacting their customer support and
telling them your problem? I doubt it. Just because you're too stubborn
to call and ask for help doesn't mean AB is a bad program or Wolflair a
bad company. You have only yourself to blaim.

The following text was copied and pasted from our website. You'll find it
on the page that outlines everything to do with licensing.

"In an effort to mitigate piracy, each license can only be re-assigned once
every 120 days (4 months). The typical user upgrades or replaces his/her
computer once every 18-20 months, so this restriction should rarely present
a problem for the user. Life is anything but predictable, though, and we
fully understand that. Disk crashes, virus attacks, and assorted other
nastiness can strike at any time, so exceptions can be made if you need to
re-assign your license before the waiting period elapses. If this situation
arises, contact technical support and we'll usually be able to get things
sorted out for you quickly."

Before you get all bent out of shape next time, perhaps a quick check on
the website or an inquiry to technical would be beneficial everyone. We
don't get accused of something that isn't true and your blood pressure
remains at a comfortable level. :-)

Please send an email to technical support about this, and be sure to
include your license number or order number. That way, we can quickly
identify your information and get this sorted out for you.

Could you please provide your reasoning for that position? Actually, please
first take a look at the webpage linked below and make sure that there

I personally don't understand the problem with the licence. You buy it and
you get essentialy get 2 licences. Most people that complain about online
authorization of licences are people that hate paying for things (from my
experience working in a Software store and computer store). Everyone
expects the world and the absolute best product but complains about having
to spend any money on the product. I use Army Builder almost every day and
I highly recommend it to any customer (I now manage a Comic / Gameing Store)
to anybody that's going to play a point based game. There is competition
for Wolflair...it's call a spread sheet or better yet a pen and paper.
Everyone assumes when there's a problem with Army Builder that it's Army
Builder that's the problem and not perhaps the User and or the User's
Computer. I can say that I've been running AB2.0 since the day it was
released and I have had absolutely no problems as has my friends who have
been using it as well. Since 3.0's release I have used it as well but am
waiting for the retail release of AB3.0 before I buy it. It's a product
that I stand by and Rob should be proud of creating such a great product.
Everyone who contributes to Army Builder also diserves a great round of
applauds because without the data file makers there would be no Army Builder
and I remember playing Warhammer and 40k when you had to write it on paper
or on a spread sheet and thank god those days are gone.

Jumping on the official army builder list and saying the product is crap and
doesnt' work and Wolflair would have competition so they go under is
extremely rude and ignorant and people on the list shouldn't have put up
with people like that. I would say that 95% of the people on the list would
disagree with comments about Wolflair's products being crap and a waste of
money.

Give more information as to what the problem is and what you are doing to
cause it. Try to see if you can replicate the problem. I'm not saying
AB3.0 is perfect but it is a completely different program from 2.0 and there
will always be some bugs for the first little while (heck it's just 1 month
old for crying out loud). I have found a bug with AB3.0 and Warhammer
Fantasy but I know how to crash it all the time so I make sure I dont' do it
till Rob get's it fixed which I have absolute faith that he will fix it as
he's aware of the problem.

Rome wasn't built in a day...Relax and breath. Use Army Builder 2.0 in the
mean time if you have it or use a pen and paper then you appreacate how much
easier it is with Army Builder.

Sorry for ranting but I've had to read complaints about other products all
day and I'm arguementative today.

I'm sorry, but maybe I am missing something here. You indicate that
IAL is 'much more expensive' than AB3.0. GW's online store
(notorious for vicious markup) seems to be pricing this software at
30 dollars per bundle. That's ten dollars cheaper than the newest
incarnation of AB. Sure, you have to buy two 30 dollar bundles to
play _everything_ available...but by my math, this still means that
you could be playing AN army for 10 bucks less than AB.

Which would be quite an improvement over me sitting with my thumb up
my arse, unable to use AB3.0 for either my WH or my DG armies. Sure,
its my own fault for not reading every piece of literature available
before shelling out the cash for AB3.0. But its pretty disappointing
for someone who impulse-buys after reading the media hype, only to
find the software unusable until someone ELSE manages to get the
data files written. I can appreciate the way the system works, but
for Chrissake, its like buying a game from Troika. You pay 50 bucks
to 'playtest' their software, then wait in frustration until they
finally release a patch to make the game playable.

As for me, I've already ordered both versions of IAL. Something I
SHOULD have done in the first place. I may use AB3.0 sometime in the
future, but truth be told, if I could get refunded my 40 bucks, I
would go that route. I haven't even used the damned software and
likely shan't be for quite some time, if ever. Lessons learned, I
suppose. Still, when I read-

"But after you figure in the time savings you'll experience in just
the first month of using the product, Army Builder is a steal!"

-I assume that the product is fully functional right off of the
shelf. As it is, any time the software would save me would be
strongly countered by the time I would lose by purchasing,
assembling, and painting an entirely new army. One that someone
actually bothered to write the files for before the damned thing was
released.

Sorry if I sound bitter, but hell...thanks for that IAL link. :)
Made my trip to this forum worthwhile.

yeah, I think you are right. I also assumed that 4th edition rules were

Been there since they released AB3. And if you used AB2.2 then you
should have known that the files are written by volunteers.
Wolflair never once implied that the 40K files were ready. You have
no one to blame but yourself.

Hmm...

The more I read this continuing thread, the more I think the original
whiny, griping poster was a GW plant.

AB is a great program. Keep up the great work, Rob!

you're right, I should have read all the details before purchasing an
unfinished product. I'll count this as a loss...or maybe 6 - 7 months down
the road, I may check back and see if the datafiles I need are finally
finished.

After reading the grripes about AB. I need to say a few things.
Anytime I have had a problem. I contacted Lone Wolf. It was then
fixed. AB is aloot cheaper than the GW versions. You need to get both
to have all the armies. One for thegood guys and one for the bad guys.
People that I know that own one or thee other eveen both. Say they
are not updated. Totally full of bugs. Or down right S#!^.

I suggest you contact Lone Wolf and see if they will rectify the
problem.

As for your problem I am sorry about that.

> you're right, I should have read all the details before purchasing an

Look, the product is finished, all you require is the datafiles. As these
are written by volunteers, you will have to wait for them appearing.
