How to create a new paladin mount?

Folks, I am new to HL. My gaming group is looking to move our Dragonlance Age of Mortals game from 3.5 to Pathfinder. In that game, my paladin is riding a Drakkensteed (from Dragon Magic I believe). I took a look at the Editor in order to make my own Drakkensteed mount, and am frankly quite overwhelmed with its complexity. Is there a way to copy an existing mount, say a horse, and add flight and a trample ability? I noticed and existing trample ability was from an elephant, and so had the wrong stats. How does one create a new trample for the drakkensteed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sure. In the editor, click on the "Race, Anim Comp" tab, then in the lower left click the "New (Copy)" button. In the list that pops up, choose "Horse".

In your new copy, change the name, Unique ID (it defaults to "an???"), and description appropriately.

To add a fly speed, scroll down through the options below the description. One button is named "Fly Speed?" click on that, click "Click to add a bootstrap" choose "xFly" (it's the only one available). Now choose the speed, and manueverability. That's all you need for a fly speed.

For trample, scroll further down, past the "Fly Speed?" button. Find the "Natural Attacks" button, click on that, click "add a new bootstrap", and choose Trample from among the list. Choose the damage for your trample, and done.

Once you're finished, hit the Test Now on the upper left. Now you should be able to choose the new race for your animal companion.

Okay, created my initial drakkensteed and hit the test button. However, it does not show up in the "Other" tab when choosing the new mounts or hirelings selector. Any clue what I might be doing wrong?

If you want a Paladin Mount as per the class ability, use the Race, Anim Comp tab as Aaron suggested. If you just want a regular mount that anyone can use (and shows up in the Other tab) use Minion/Hirelings to create it.

oooooh, gotcha. Thanks. So where do you assign the Paladin Mount? I must be missing something. Like I said, I am a brand spanking noob to HL and have a LOT to learn.

Once you reach 5th level, go to the Paladin tab in your portfolio. Click on "Add more Divine Bonds", select Paladin Mount. An icon will then appear in the upper left of the same tab that will allow you to add the animal companion. Clicking on that will add the companion to the portfolio. Switch to the companion and assign the race as normal.

I was wondering if it had something to do with the 5th level mount acquisition and if the rules were not allowing it until then.

Thanks a bunch, Aaron and Sendric, for your assistance.
