Hi there,

There's currently no support for changing the monetary system. To
what would you like it changed? Would you just want the names of the
coins changed, or something else?

Thanks,

It would be nice to able to change money names and values

It would be nice if HL would handle different money name and value relationships. Also be able to change the monetary standard such as gold, silver, steel, credit etc., so that most of the goods would be shown in that standard. For instance the world I play in uses this monetary system and has a siver standard.

Unit______________Equivalent
Platinum Plate______100 Silver Dollars
Gold Shreve_______20 Silver Dollars
Silver Dollar_______1 Dollar
Electrum Shekel____1/10th of a Silver Dollar
Copper Common___1/50th of a Silver Dollar

It would be also nice to able to change it to allow for other gaming systems like GURPS, Star Wars, MERPS, Rolemaster and such.

Thanks for listening,
Scott

While it isn't the same system, Wealth as in D20 Modern might be an idea.

Not to mention that Greyhawk had one of the most massive currencies I've yet seen, with 8 diffrent coins.

Duly noted. We have some of this already in place but still have to adjust things a bit for full generality. I've added this to the todo list.

Support for entirely different game systems will be handled through separate sets of data files for each game system. If you want to see a particular game system supported, please do two things. First, let us know by voicing your opinions in the thread entitled "What Games Should Hero Lab Support?". Second, let the RPG publisher know by posting the suggestion on their forums and/or sending them an email directly. We're going to be speaking with a number of additional publishers over the next couple of months about lining up support for their games later this year. If they have already had their customers suggest the idea, it usually makes the process a good bit easier to get everything approved. :-)

Will HL3.0 support changing monetary system?

With the release of HL3.0, I was wondering can I now change the monetary system in the d20 folder? That is can I change the coin names and relation ships to each other? I play D&D 3.5 in a user created world where the monetary system is different from stock d20. I am hoping HL will finally allow me to change the monetary system.

I think HL gets better with every revision!

Thanks for your support of Hero Lab! :) I was doing some work with the authoring kit recently, and the biggest thing that struck me as a problem was money. Because money is used in different ways in so many places, it takes a long time to make changes to it - it was probably the single biggest chunk of time that I spent changing one specific facet of the game system. This is why we haven't allowed you to do this yet. :/

I'll definitely be looking into this to see if there's any changes we can make that make changing money easier.

I'd also like this change, as, like Phantomwhale, I use the Steel system in my dragonlance game. I'd like to set it up so that 1 Stl has the equivalent buying power to 1 gp, an iron piece is worth .5 gp and so on.

Any progress with money?

Besides coins

Actually Colen, when you are sitting around some night not doing anything (that's a joke right?) it might be nice if you could come up with a way to include a way of indicating non-monetary treasure. I am mainly thinking of gems here partner. My DM just luvs to give out gems and make us do Appraisal checks.

Have a great week.

Jim

Gems are easy - one of the first items in the equipment list is custom gear - add that and call it "Opal", and give it a value of 100gp. You can also pay 100gp for it on the purchase screen if you're buying it from a merchant to lighten the weight of cash you have to carry. You could also leave the value blank until you appraised it successfully.

Hi. Just bought HL to run my D&D 3.5.
I have a lot of houserules. Surprised to find the monetary system likely to be the hardest.
I want to copy the d20 rulesystem and mod it for my rules, and make the houserules as automatic as possible for my players.
First, my current monetary system:
Standard CP, SP, GP (10cp = 1 sp = 1/10 gp).
2 ep (electrum) = 1 gp
1 pp (platinum) = 20 gp

Second, I may decide to incorporate national (or regional) currencies, with different exchange rates.

Has the feature listed above come into the product?
Thanks.
