So I know the HLC app doesn’t have an editor function for creating custom stuff, but is there a way to port editor files from the desktop version into the app?

What HLC App? Do you mean HLO, or the iPad/IPhone App?
If you mean HLO: No, you can't transfer anything from Classic to HLO.
It used to be possible to transfer user files to the Mac App by copying them into the relevant directories.
If you want more detail, perhaps posting in the "Hero Lab Discussion" forum could be worthwhile, as that covers Mac, etc.
