I've created extra characters in portfolios.
In a portfolio with monsters or NPCs who will be looted...
Create an NPC, set it to ally of the party, so it won't influence experience calculations.
And then give all of the treasure for the encounter to this placeholder.
Once the bad guys (and treasure placeholder) have been imported into the active (Hero's) portfolio, it's easy to transfer (give to hero) to whoever is looting.
I've also had a placeholder named Wagon...
Which had PC group loot...
I'm not sure if that is the best solution, but it works.
Also, really really hoping for the day when HeroLabs.net lets me click on a Inventory "bag" and transfer to a party member via the cloud...
The NPC approach works especially well for transferring money between characters (using the money Gear items "Silver Piece", "Gold Piece", "Copper Piece", and "Platinum Piece" found in the Community Pack); HeroLab's abstracted money does not allow transfer to other characters (or even allocation to containers), which is a huge PitA when your players hide "6 gp sewn into my cloak" or the like.
