Home Base as a Gear Container

Usage question for Hero lab

If I have a "home base", and I want to store some gear -- let's say spellbooks or other things -- how would that be represented in hero lab, ideally?

I've created extra characters in portfolios.

In a portfolio with monsters or NPCs who will be looted...
Create an NPC, set it to ally of the party, so it won't influence experience calculations.
And then give all of the treasure for the encounter to this placeholder.
Once the bad guys (and treasure placeholder) have been imported into the active (Hero's) portfolio, it's easy to transfer (give to hero) to whoever is looting.

I've also had a placeholder named Wagon...
Which had PC group loot...

I'm not sure if that is the best solution, but it works.

Interesting I like the NPC Ally called "Party Treasure".

You can also create a custom container and drop it to the ground. (Not ideal, but another option)

+1 I use NPC Ally as well, Race: Mule. :)

And it's still easy to transfer stuff back and forth via the Inventory "bag" icon.

However, IF it's really on a "mule" or something local to me (eg I could obtain the item in a few rounds) I will leave it on my sheet and use a "Custom Container" with 0 weight. Otherwise I will forget I have those 12 vials of holy water in saddle bags on my actual mule! And this "custom" container can easily be transferred to the NPC ally, like when I leave said mule behind or such.

Also, really really hoping for the day when HeroLabs.net lets me click on a Inventory "bag" and transfer to a party member via the cloud...

yeah, cloud integration would be great -- have each instance of HL "talk" to each other and have an accept/reject transaction type mechanism between them so that inidividual portfolios would be private between the players but readable via a "GM" HL instance.

I have used both the NPC and the Custom Container for different purposes.

The Custom Container can be added more than one for different purposes... like "Inn Room", "Home", "Bank", etc., and can be used to group gear that the PC permanently owns but does not always carry (or stashes of money).

The NPC approach works for accumulating unallocated loot along the way, for one thing. The down side of that is that, if you're using Encumbrance, it is not reflected on the PCs (although, once they have Bags of Holding, Handy Haversacks, and/or Portable Holes, that's less of an issue).

The NPC approach works especially well for transferring money between characters (using the money Gear items "Silver Piece", "Gold Piece", "Copper Piece", and "Platinum Piece" found in the Community Pack); HeroLab's abstracted money does not allow transfer to other characters (or even allocation to containers), which is a huge PitA when your players hide "6 gp sewn into my cloak" or the like.

FYI, multiple "purses" of coins is something I was laying the groudwork for some months back (when we added the transaction tracking and custom currency stuff) and I would still like to get back to that, so dividing up money may happen relatively soon, once things cool down with starfinder.
