hello, Im DMing a campaign and I want to have my players use the iPad app, I have some questions.

They email me level 1 character sheets from myth-weavers I import into HL and email them back .por files from HL.

--PROBLEM!
Do they really have to import them via itunes every time they level up? I get that we'll have to level up in HL, thats fine. But to then have everyone have to grab their iPads, head to their iTunes, drag and drop the updated file, then come back to our meet up seems loose.

Unless I'm missing that 'Open .POR' dialog in my iPad app. I saw some explanation of how to import other game files into the app, but I haven't found anywhere that makes it easy for me to send out 6 character sheets and have them easiliy opened using ONLY an iPad.

If there is an easier way Id love to know.

I bought pathfinder, + advanced packages + beasiaries + etc etc etc (just like buying the paper books all over again!)

Id really hoped this was a true easy solution for managing characters, and a campaign in 1 app.

DropBox integration, this way I could share folders with each party member and have a .por file waiting for them.
 
Yes you can open them from DropBox.

There is an option something like "open in other application", from where you can then choose HL
 
I can open the files using the "Open In..." dialog from Google Drive & Cloudstation.

Haven't tried Dropbox, so I can't confirm that one.
 
You can also easily email the .por file to yourself and then have the app open it. And from inside of the app when you have a character open you can email the current character also.

Some of my players use dropbox but most just email them back and forth to themselves as its easy.

although scraping a dropbox folder or other shared service for updates to a file could be a quite nice feature down the road.

Hold a training session and get everyone on Google Drive/Drop box. It will be awesome.

I have all my players on Google Drive. So in Hero Labs, they just open/save .por files to a shared (with me) folder. I can reveiw/edit same .por files anytime and we are always "in sync". Then via ipad they always have access to latest versions as well.

If we are "at the table" and they don't have a laptop, I can edit their character for them and bam, available on iPad.

Email is SO 20th century lol

Shadow. How do you do this? I can manage getting the file from computer to ipad via email,google drive,dropbox,etc. But then I haven't been able to find a way to take the ipad character with all its updates (gear,exp,gold,etc) and email it back to myself to be able to level up without having to make all those same changes on the computer. I've tried the upward arrow box in the top right hand corner but it only has a copy statblock. Is there something I'm missing or some other way to send myself the .por from the Ipad?

My guess is you have a very old version of the iPad app. Update to the latest version and then under the upward arrow in the top right corner it will give you the option to email the portfolio.

Actually I'm using the most current. I only bought an ipad in the last 2 months. It auto updates the core application via the app store and I check for updates from within the program which is at least once a week. I know that the core app updated just this week I believe and the in app update I did just yesterday and tried again to do this. There isn't an email option.

Just to make sure we are on the same page here is a image of what I see. So I open the character and in the top right corner press the Up Arrow symbol. This is the same thing all my players see also:

If you don't see this same thing then I am sorry I don't know. I would put in an official bug report.

My only last thought is lately HL iPad has been going a little crazy. :( The solution is to Force Close the iPad app and restart it. That fixes allot of issues my players have been having.
 
Interesting. We are definetly on the same page but when I hit that same button it only gives me the first two options. I consistently force close any apps I'm not using anyway so that hasn't helped. I guess I will have to submit a bug report.

I have one other possible thought. I don't have email set up through the ipad's built in email client. I downloaded and use the gmail app for my email. Do you have your email set up through the ipad's on "native" email client? If so I wonder if HL checks for an "active" email set up with the native ipad email client and then doesn't offer those options if it doesn't find one.

iPad natively support Gmail so yes all my email accounts are setup through the iOS software. That is most likely the reason actually as iOS won't recognize 3PP apps for email as having an active email account. Try setting up your email through iOS and see if the email option then appears...
