HL Bug? Ninja with Rogue (Scout) Archetype

From everything I have seen a ninja should be able to take rogue archetypes. However, this is not possible with HL3.9b and the latest Pathfinder (updated 2/20/2012). Is this a bug or do I have this wrong and a ninja can't take rogue archetypes?

I thought this was the archetype limitation:
"A character can take more than one archetype and garner additional alternate class features, but none of the alternate class features can replace or alter the same class feature from the core class as another alternate class feature."

comments?

That's an interesting question. The ninja is already an alternate rogue. This is a good question for the Paizo boards.

It's already been discussed:

Some folks are just trying to figure out which archetype they want for builds:

Reading of these posts gives me an indication that the answer is still pending an official ruling from Paizo but more often than not people are allowing it in their games. It would be nice to at least be able to suppress the validation error that results when the rogue archetype is selected.

I don't see anything official in those threads you linked to - just the opinions of players. Although I agree that this is probably what was intended, I don't think the rules text you quoted says that.

Oh, and the error message for adding an archetype without its corresponding class is a real error, not just a validation error.

You can use the editor to house-rule this, though. In the archetype tab, make a copy of the archetype you're interested in, change the class it's associated with, and make sure all the other details are working correctly.

I agree with you. I was able to house-rule this in per the HLEditor as you suggested. I had to copy over field-by-field the archetype to a new archetype template as the archetypes generally cannot be modified -- brings up an error. However, this did work wonderfully and I have my Ninja (Scout) archetype now with no errors. Thanks!
