Hero Lab using Wine

Hello! I recently attempted to get Hero Lab to run on my laptop. I'm using a chromebook that has a chroot of xubuntu 14.04 installed. I have installed Wine and Hero Lab and the application runs, but the updates don't work. I've read several threads but the fixes don't seem to help. At this stage, the update just says "checking for updates..." indefinitely. Does anyone have any idea? It's Wine 1.6
