Hero Lab on Android

I understand that Hero Lab is currently being adapted for Apple products like the IPad. I was just curious to know if there was any news about Hero Lab coming to Android products.

If not, does anybody know if there is a character creator out there that an Android can handle?

Thanks!

The plan that they have stated, at least as I understand it, is that they plan on making a pathfinder character sheet for iOS, and work it from there to a fully functional Hero Lab on iOS before they even think of starting to develop for Android.

I don't like it, I don't like it at all, but I must respect the developers decisions to go whatever direction they want to.

Did. Lone Wolf do any research?

I only know two gamers that use iPads and in both cases it's a company owned item. Most gamers are poor or cheap (got to buy more games) thus they use Kindle fire because it's cheaper. Why spend twice as much on something when you know it will be obsolete in less than a year. I recently got a fire 8.9 and have had a asus TF101 for almost two years, put in interest of full disclosure my favorite is still my HP webos touchpad. Ok, I know a few that own Nexus and a several that own Galaxies, but basically make sure it runs on the fire, Amazon owns a third of the android market and android appears to own 80 percent of gamers.

Unfortunately the demographic of Apple users versus Android users is that Apple users are more likely to throw money away and around, thus attracting the Herolab team to that platform first.
This is a sad fact, even though the various incarnations of Android now outsell and outnumber the IOS tablet platform by a significant amount, but the android users are cheap sobs. :(

I've got both iPads and Droid Tablets (dTabs.) Everyone in my gaming group (6 others) also have tablets...all Android. I think going for the shiny iPad was a mistake. The gamer demographic is much more likely to have dTabs than iPads, and there are more dTabs than iPads to boot. But the i-products are i-sexy, so you know...

Another +1 for the Android app request. I play in 2 groups, 12 players between both, among those 5 android tablets (all Google Nexus) and only 1 ipad. Even if you count mobiles I think there's 2 iphones everyone else has an android phone.

Not sure about paying for it, which I may do, but I'm really foaming at the mouth for the character handler, as I only really need full functionality when I'm running a game, when I'm playing in one all I need is a better way to handle my character sheet.

Has there ever been a mentioning of possibly getting a KickStarter together for an Android version?

I'd be willing to pay $$ if it allowed Rob to hire more devs to dual develop. Heck, I'd even volunteer to help develop it :)

Guys, the likely reason Android is taking a backseat is that iOS has the benefit of consistency. When you design for iPad, you're just designing for iPad. When you design for Android there are dozens and dozens of different platforms and it's a ton of extra work to make sure your app is presentable on all of them. I was bummed too when I first heard that iPad was getting special treatment first, but then I thought about it more, sucked it up, and saved up for an iPad (just in time too... only bought it a few weeks ago).

+1 for the android app.

I honestly don't understand companies that are releasing an app for only one platform at a time. There are quite a few application frameworks that are cross-platform. Do the work once and have an app for ALL mobile operating systems.

We know WHY it took a back seat. And it always comes down to money and risk on investment. How much money and how much risk Rob would take is up to him. And KickStarter is a great way to know how many peope really would commit. Saying you have an Android tablet is one thing, enough people comitting to pre-paying for it to hire more developers is another.

And I know Rob has expanded is dev base already for Realmworks and other endevors and know there is a limit one can/should expand. And I would understand/accept a "for now, we have our hands full regardless of money". I simply asked if it has been considered.

Funny thing is, for all the "iPad is consistent" talk, it already doesn't support the oldest iPad. And they still have to code for the iPad Mini screen size. I'd argue there are less differences in coding for Android tablet OS (4.x) than the iOS's out now.

And for Android, I disagree (doing some Android developement myself), that tablet market is much different thant the phone market (not nearly the number of different hardware/screensize) and there are steps to handle DPI differences. In fact, using fragments, you could design for phones and tablets at same time. But that's another discussion.

Bottom line, there are those who would put money where are mouth is! :-D

Actually their is no size programming for the Mini at all. The screen is simply smaller but has the exact same resolution.

Sorry I may not be describing the tech exactly but the point is their is no programming needed from the developers side to support the iPad mini.

+1 for android and add me to the list that think apple device develop first is a short sighted poor business choice. I have just been to a gaming con and most of the devices there were android and most of these gamers were neither poor nor cheap.

I am not sure about these apps when will they become available? Waiting to have them in my tablet

This is correct. As long as you're complying with Apple's suggestions to "make things big enough to tap", apps for the iPad should always just work on the iPad mini.
