Help needed - How do I Transfer money to an animal companion?

Hi there, I've read a couple of posts regarding this but I'm still stuck. I'm trying to buy barding and other magic gear for my Wolf Mount for My Gnome Cavalier...

I read:

states you should transfer the gold to your animal companion so it can take into account the additional cost for barding (BTW I checked and yes Hero Lab does take it into account) but I can't transfer my gold over, if I put it on the ground and try and fetch it or if I put it in a belt pouch and try and transfer it I get the same message:

Which states I can simply deduct the cost from my main character via the journal tab by inputting a negative value. That doesn't work either lol; nothing happens when I click earn, it just greys out saying -30gp...

Am I missing a trick here? Will I just need to buy it twice and sell it one for nothing? that seems a bit lame. I'd prefer to have everything at the right value etc...
 
Ahahaha I've been staring at this for too long!

The journal thing is working I was watching my gear value not changing, not my actual gold!

Still though, is there no way to actually transfer the gold over like the first thread I checked said? Then the item values would be correct...
