Help getting Weapon Focus working

Howdy. Just purchased Hero Lab over the past couple of days and finally got to sit down and enter a character for a game I'm playing. Within minutes I've hit my first stumbling block that I, less a programmer than I am just some d00d, cannot figure out.

Essentially, I have a +2 magic shortsword that the GM has doing 2d6 base damage instead of the normal 1d6. I was able to create the item in the editor and import (if that's even the correct terminology) the item to be available. My problem is that even though I copied the shortsword entry to create it, my character's Weapon Focus: Shortsword won't apply. I attempted to bootstrap it, but I'll confess that I have no idea what that even means, forget trying to get it to work. :)

The tool has a logic to it that makes me feel this is absolutely possible to get working, but my brain lacks the cody bits to make that happen. Any advice for a guy?

In the editor, select your new version of the short sword, then scroll down to the "Counts As Weapon" button. Click the old version of Short Sword there. That way your Weapon Focus (and any other feats) will add their bonus to both.
