Help for Noob

Hi everyone, I was searching the forums, but my issue seems to be such an old one that every thread I find references solutions but doesn't really EXPLAIN them. I'm trying to use beast shape spells with my Hero Lab character. I'm using HL for the mac, so I don't know if I can use the same dataset files others often reference. But even if I can, I'm clueless about how to import them. My coding knowledge is nil, but I can follow instructions. Can someone point me to a ready-made solution I can download and walk me through the installation, or alternately, walk me through a home made solution?

Thanks so much in advance.

I'm seeing the directory where the user files go, and I've moved them there, but HL tells me there are no user sources found. Any ideas?

Ctrl - k opens the configure hero options.

Tick all the sources you want to use and the user data will appear as choices.
If you don't configure the options to use those sources then you can't see them.

Hope this helps!

Yes I am able to bring up the configure hero screen, but the checkbox for user sources says there aren't any defined, and I don't see the sources I used anywhere else on the list.

If you had Hero Lab open while you moved the files into the correct folder, use "Switch Game System" in the file menu, and choose Pathfinder from that list - that will have Hero Lab recompile everything in order to incorporate the new content.

Ok all stop!

Please don't load the sources that Blzbob listed. Those are ONLY for editors creating new stuff. If a .user file requires a Source or .1st file it would be included in the zip file. So if its just a .user file then no .1st is required. :)

If your have loaded the "Wildshape Polymorph Adjustments.zip" addon then their is NO sources/things to check mark. Simply restart HL and go to the "adjust" tab to find them.

Doh!!!

Of course they are adjustments. *Face palm*
Ignore me I'm just in the corner looking sheepish! No reason.

It's still not working for me, perhaps someone can help me. Here's what I've done step by step.

1) downloaded the wild shape zip file
2) Copied the individual user files from the unzipped folder into the folder that herolab gives me when I Explore- user data files
3) Re-load herolab
4) when I bring up the sources to configure, the check box for "user content" is grayed out and says "no user sources defined.

Any ideas?

Yes as mentioned above their is no source to check mark. Simply restart HL and go to the "adjust" tab to find them. :)

Yes, when I said "it's still not working," I should have mentioned that I did go to the adjust tab to see if it was working. I wasn't just guessing that it didn't work ;)

Hmmm :(

Ok then can you give more exact info about
"2) Copied the individual user files from the unzipped folder into the folder that herolab gives me when I Explore- user data files"

Did you do the following Tools->Explore Folders->Program Data Folder from inside of HL to find the data folder?

On windows 7 the full directory path would be "C:\ProgramData\Hero Lab\data\pathfinder".

For Windows XP/Vista "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Hero Lab\data\pathfinder"

Yeah I have HL on the mac, but when I do tools->explore folders->user data folder I put the user files in that directory

/Users/Jason/Library/Application Support/Hero Lab

I also did it in the tools->explore folders->program data folder directory, neither seems to show up.

/Users/Jason/Documents/Hero Lab

Hmm I know very little about Macs but I have to assume that their must be a Lower Level folder that holds "Data/Pathfinder".

Just to be clear but I listed "Tools->Explore Folders->Program Data Folder" but you said "tools->explore folders->user data folder". User Data Folder is where you store the portfolios or characters. The "Data" folder is where you put the .user files.

Be sure you are selecting to explore "Program Data Folder" and put the .user files in that folder/directory.

Sweet! The program data files folder it was giving me wasn't drilled down enough - it was just leading me to the herolab folder and I needed to manually find the appropriate /data/pathfinder. Thanks so much for your help.

I don't suppose anyone knows of files for the form of the dragon spells?

Close...

Users/Jason/Library/Application Support/Hero Lab/Data/pathfinder

is where they should be.
