I think I am about to have an aneurism.

I am at 95% completion of one of the data files that I am working.
It has been an uphill battle. Ask a couple of the other members
here. I've been badgering them for help.

This is very critical to me, this next thing.

While proofing my files, I noticed that I had an Item entry that was
very similar to one that I need in a separate data file. Let's say
Crystal Blades for RaceA were nearly identical to Gem Blades for
RaceC. So I looked at the File:Export:Item route. I thought, okay
cool. I can export this item right into the other race file.
Goodie. I closed the data file for RaceC, saving all my hard work
first. From RaceA's data file I Exported the Item into RaceA.

Now, AB is telling me it cannot open RaceC's file. Tell me this is a
recoverable problem, please. Please??

From the documentation for the export menu item:

"This item brings up a sub-menu that lists a number of the different record
types used by Army Builder. By selecting one of these menu items, you can
export a list of all records of the selected record type to a text file.
(etc etc)"

If you tried to export this data "into" another data file, I'm afraid it
looks like you've overwritten the file you were trying to export "into".
Since the data is exported in text format, the resulting file will not be a
valid data file, so ABCreator will not be able to open it.

So I'm afraid that, unless you have a backup or another copy saved
somewhere, you may well have lost the data in RaceC's file. :/

Ugh.

Guess I should RTFM before experimenting.

Suggestion for future releases however - force the file extension to .txt in
the File Save dialogue, please. That would have been an undeniable clue to
me as to what I was about to do and not allow me to overwrite a data file.

And I did make a backup..this morning. I stayed home from work today to
finish this data file (heh heh) and now have lost the entire day's work.

<sigh>

Well, thanks for the reply, I can now bring my backup back and start all
over again.
