Help. after installing the 4th edition update yesterday, (I don't own the data set for this crap by the way) all my license quit working. I'd like to do some characters this weekend.

Try going through the "reactivate license" wizard - once you complete it and restart Hero Lab, your license should be back in action. If that doesn't work, please contact support@wolflair.com as Lawful_g suggests, and they should be able to sort you out.
You state that the license wizard isn't working. Are you being given any error messages? If so, providing those errors would be incredibly helpful in figuring out what's going wrong.
Hopefully, you've already got stuff sorted out with Nancy's help for tech support. If not, you need to provide us with some details to diagnose what's wrong, else it's a lot like calling your doctor and saying "I don't feel good", then expecting him to tell you what's wrong.
And if you want the problem sorted out quickly, then there is no such thing as providing too much information. The more info you provide about what you're doing, what errors are appearing, and/or what incorrect behavior you are experiencing, the more likely it is that someone on this end can figure out the problem and get it solved on the first try - without having to ask you for more info.
