I'm done with my Bachelors and hitting the road for a well deserved road trip across the USA. Set out from Sacramento 2 days ago and currently in Flagstaff AZ heading east. Eat that, education!

So, various and sundry HL forum people, any suggestions on where I should go/what I should see?
 
Currently in Oklahoma City, heading for the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, then down to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Any recomendations other than swimming?
 
Well I am an East Coast person, living near DC. So if you make it this far stop by and see the capital and government buildings. Also make it out to the Chesapeak Bay for some crabs.

I hate paying to take a class that only exists because they promised someone with tenure a job...

Went to New Orleans and took a swamp tour, now headed south into Florida to visit more swamp in the Everglades. DC is already on my list, I want to visit the Smithsonian. I do like crab though, I am on a tight budget.

Congrats on the degree! You may have already done this since you were based in Sacramento, but I'd recommend checking out Yosemite national park, then Las Vegas for a couple of days. You can easily spend a day or two just wandering around the strip and checking out a show or two, without gambling anything at all.
 
Congrats on a major milestone!

A few places that left lasting impressions on me are Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks. However, I'm not sure how accessible they will be in this weather. The Yellowstone area and the Grand Tetons are breathtaking as well, but again they made not be very accessible this time of year. If you get up to New England, I loved roaming around Boston, and on the way back west, Chicago is great, too.

Have a great time. Just be safe on the road with all the nasty weather hitting everything this holiday season. :-)
 
I would 2nd Chicago, it has been over 15 years since I have been to the windy city but it was awesome, great down town Calder sculptures rock awesome Museums (watch ghost in the darkness then go to the Natural history Museum the lions are on display there).
 
Did you have a good adventure and what all did you make it to. It is a great idea to travel before you start a "real" life, with family and work it is very hard to find the time let alone the $$ to travel. Thats why the internet is so popular LOL.
 
I went and saw the Grand canyon, did a swamp boat tour near New Orleans, hiked in the Everglades, spent christmas with a rarely seen aunt in Georgia (christmas Gumbo!), and drove through a blizzard in Nebraska.

In all, it was a bit too much driving between not enough fun stuff. I think it would have been better to have someone along to share the driving, navigation, and provide conversation. But as hard as it is to find money and time to travel yourself, having somebody else with the same opportunity at the same time was unlikely. So, eh. As I said, I am glad to be home.
