errors when loading stock?

Pollution

Well-known member
Anyone else see errors when trying to load stock heroes?

Example: Just got into PF, setting up a portfolio for the First AP (Rise of the Runelords). Started off by loading a goblin warrior (Misc Monster??? I can't figure out where to find these things, hahaha). Load up just 1 Gobo to see how the output looks (first time running PF, just bought a ton of addons for HL, so I'm learning the new interface).

I get an error, here's the report from the appdata file:

Pick 'raKPInfDip' has been orphaned due to missing thing in batch '51'
Pick 'raKPUndDip' has been orphaned due to missing thing in batch '51'
Pick 'raKPScaDip' has been orphaned due to missing thing in batch '51'

Pick 'raKPStatus' has been orphaned due to missing thing in batch '53'
Pick 'raKPStatSt' has been orphaned due to missing thing in batch '53'

That can't be it, can it?

I have:

PF Core
Beastiary 1-3 bundle
APG
Ultimate Combat

The Goblin is in the first beastiary. So... why the error message?

Pollution, what you're seeing is a bug, and it is not related to what packages you own. PLEASE report bugs using the link in the stickied thread at the top of this forum.

(This one's already been reported, so there's not a need to report it again).

Awesome! well, bugs aren't' awesome, but at least I know it's not a case of me needing to shell out another $10-20 to run my son and his friends through Rise of the Runelords (just spent $200 getting them all good to go with books, pawns, dice and Hero Lab data files).

I would assume (as having looked over the resulting sheet it looks legit) that regardless of bugs, the imported NPC is just fine and dandy to use (i.e. correct stats). What I was really worried about with the error was the combat tracker and similar.

Thanks Mathias!

Something to look at is the "Community Bestiary" that has all the monsters from the AP done for you. Better still the actual encounters are all done and ready for import.

1) To use the CB setup the new download link following the instructions HERE.
2) Download and install the CB through Hero Lab. This will include a readme document located in your "My Documents\Hero Lab\portfolios\pathfinder\Community Beistary\"
3) Download the encounter files from d20pfsrd website. The zip files located in the "Community Bestiary NPCs" folder are all meant to be used with the "Community Bestiary". These contain the pre-made encounter .por files.

Yeah, I did see that, but I have the community player pack, which is incompatible with the bestiary (I thought). besides, I don't have Ultimate Magic installed

The community player pack and the community bestiary are incompatible because everything in the player pack is also included in the bestiary, so if you delete the player pack and add the bestiary, you won't lose anything.

Ahh, that makes more sense now. Though, still missing ultimate magic

I believe the reference to needing some of the other packages is that, when opening some of the stock portfolios, if a creature uses something from a data set you do not have, you will get some error messages. If you are not trying to use the creatures that have these references, the others should still work (just as the Goblins you see now look ok despite the error messages).

Yup, that does seem to be the case. Just checked out the encounters (BIG time saver, TY!) and the gobo's load just fine, even with the error message.

I guess I'll cave and pick up UM and UEq this weekend. le Sigh, Lone Wolf, yer gettin' all me monies!

Thanks for the help guys.

Just an FYI but the base list of "required" packages for the CB is required to actually load the Community Bestiary package.

If you want to use the CB you must have the official packages of "Advanced Players Guide, Bestiary 1, Bestiary 2, Bestiary 3, Ultimate Combat, and Ultimate Magic". If you don't HL will throw errors and load into safe mode. The reason is we are directly accessing "Things" from those packages and the scripts can't compile without them.

But you could load up say something from the Reign of Winter AP which pulls allot from the Paths of Presitage and the .por file will have errors. But the package loads just fine without the Paths of Presitage as we have no scripts that need to access it.

I am also pretty darn sure the next update will require Bestiary 4 package so that the Wrath of the Righteous will work. That is either a good thing or bad thing based on your view point. ;)

Oh, sure, I'm in for $20 more, why not make it $30. :D

J/K, these datafiles have always been awesome, so no hate on my part for the pittance that saves me 10+hours trying to put in custom monsters/spells/equipment myself.

My son and his friends are getting into PnP RPG's for the first time (Freshmen/Sophmores in High School). None of them know how to run, but they all really want to play. There's something awesome about coming home to 5 Teenagers trying to figure out combat and doing the "arena" thing where they all fight each other just to get to play. So, I'm going to dust off my DM hat and run em through.

Lone Wolf saves me at LEAST 50 hours of work for each chapter in the AP's. So....Yeah, I'll shell out $100 in total for everything. Hell, I get to bond with my boy....priceless if you ask me.

Again, thanks for all the help guys!

Good for Lone Wolf since it'll probably sell a lot of B4 :)

The main reason I buy HL packages is so I can use the CB. It's beyond awesome and I'll happily pick up any extra packages it requires.
