In AB 2.0 when you are using a breakthrough mission it will not let
you take an Emperors champion without taking a HQ choice.

Problem is you do not have to take a HQ in these missions.

Does any one know if this is just a bug in the files or what?

You should be able to take an Emperors champion as he is a compulsory
model, but the HQ's are not in that mission.

any thoughts?

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the emporers champion IS an HQ
choice. You can't take it without filling an HQ slot. THat's like saying

Actually, the Champion counts as an HQ as far as
deployment is concerned, but doesn't take up the slot.
This allows Black Templars players to take two
'normal' HQ choices, but they still *must* take the
Emperor's Champion.

The problem this causes with Army Builder is that
sometimes there are missions that only allow one HQ
choice, or don't require one at all, but the Templars
have no choice but to take the Champion...

Aargh. I wondered when this would come up :(

>Does any one know if this is just a bug in the files or what?

It's an Issue.

Here's the deal. There are basically 2 ways the Emperor's Champion can
be modelled, that I can think of. (Anyone thinking of others, please,
let me know).

1) The way he is now. This ensures he doesn't take up an HQ unit, but
requires you to actually have some HQ in the first place. If you don't
have any HQ, just take the standard Emperor's Champion as a special
character choice - you don't need the extra HQ slots anyway, do you?

2) The same way that Imperial Guard Infantry Squads are done, using the
'Othr' group. The irritating thing about this is that I'll have to
modify every single composition rule for every single Space Marine-
derived army to let the Othr group be included, which would be very
boring. At some point in the future I'm going to have to do something
like it anyway, because the current race rules are an absolute
nightmare, but I've been trying to put it off until I can do something
else to it at the same time.

Will it cause great weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth if I leave it
as option 1 for now, or are there no major issues with doing so?

Well, that depends on what "for now" means. Beta, v.2.1, next
year, ??? Otherwise, I may have to start writing strongly-worded
posts; and no-one wants to see that. :)

Heaven forbid :)

Probably beta. Not sure when it'll be out; I was planning to keep with
Alpha-N+1 until I got the Campaign thing working.
