Dwarven Forge

I played a couple of campaigns with a GM who had a pile of (the older variation of) Tact-Tiles, which are simpler than the Saga tiles. (They're interlocking dry-erase squares with grids.)

I did a bit of poking around for similar products while looking for the name of the tiles he had. On one hand I'm a bit surprised that none of them seem to have done well enough to stay in print, but on the other they're a niche product in a niche hobby so I'm not that surprised.

A kickstarter ran a year or so ago that recreated Tact-Tiles and would even work with the old version. I picked up some extra as I love my Tact-Tiles. :)

HERE is a link to the new company putting them out again.

I knew about the Kickstarter and I checked the company while searching for similar products. They are out of stock, and every similar product I found while searching was either out of stock or their web site/company has since disappeared. Thus the statement about being a bit surprised but not surprised.

(Aside: This reminds me of the exchange I had with someone about how I replaced some cardboard coins in a game with one company's metal ones. Another guy said "These ones are better!", to which I said "Maybe, but the ones I picked are available.")

Fear not the Dwarven Forge for the Bones IV is upon us!

I do own many Dwarven Forge sets. Fortunately I purchased them 20 years ago when you got a lot of pieces in the boxes for the money. Mine still have the bowtie connectors, which they discountinued years ago. I still use the sets for my games with miniatures.

Is this where we tell LWD they can take a bit longer to release the CM because were all gonna be broke for 2 months ;)

Hirst Arts user here myself. The beauty of Hirst Arts is that it can fit nicely with Dwarven Forge, so go for both! :) I think people who make Hirst Arts love the creation of the set first, and then see that they find use on the table afterwards. :) Each approach (digital, Hirst Arts, Dwarven Forge, Lego, imagination) all have their advantages and disadvantages but as long as the result is an enjoyable game for the players and GM, go for what you are comfortable with.

Here's some of my HA work for the curious.

Sorry I didn't know they had already stopped making it. A friend of mine purchased some months after the Kickstarter so I assumed like Dwarven Forge they would still have them in stock. :(

Noooo not another one. I need to get a couple of jobs.

Sadly yes if everyone else keeps creating Kickstarts that we follow and support.

Speak for yourself, Plunk, I have VISA! It's everywhere you want to be!:D

Yes! Brilliant idea, we can charge it all your VISA.

I love this plan! I'm excited to be a part of it! Let's do it! :)

Like many people, I have more ambition than skill and stubbornness to follow through. The Bones are a good example: I can't paint for crud, so while I'd love a ton of cheap miniatures I can't use them well and so I need to stay away. (Didn't stop me from buying a bunch the first time around, though.)

The Hirst Arts molds (and similar) are another one: one of those things that look cool but I know I'd never use well. Glad to see others get good results!

WAIT! This is not a good plan! I did not approve this plan! I have enough trouble explaining aberrant VISA purchases to my wife! I think this plan SMACKS of bad idea!

Without a fool proof plan to get this through customs (aka the living room) I feel this plan needs more work or we will all end up divorced.

So instead of beating our selves up trying to figure out the customs problem, lets just chalk this one off as "BAD PLAN"

Go out and buy yourself a pool, and make sure it's big enough that you need to hire a pool boy.

Problem solved, she'll be so busy watching the pool boy that you can sneak anything past her.
