(Drop Dead Studios) Spheres of Power: Official Support Thread

Ran into kind of an odd glitch that seems to be the result of a combination of things

Firstly the character in question is using Traditional Magic as his casting style, so he has to assign spell points to sphere.

One of those Spheres is the Life Sphere and so far no problem

however when I take the talent Fount of Life the tracked resources section of the In-Play tab no longer recognizes that I have points assigned to the life sphere. It just reads 0/0 even though I have 7 spoints assigned to it.

Odd. It looks like the tracker for Life spell points is instead adding to the Fount of Life HP pool. I'll make sure to fix that in the next update.

I've converted a certain evil cleric of Norgorber to spheres of power and despite clearly being negative energy channeling, he gains access to the life sphere instead of the death sphere. The class feature is called necromantic focus I believe.

Reproduced. You should be able to fix this by temporarily removing your deity and changing your alignment to Neutral, then you should be able to pick Positive/Cure or Negative/Inflict which in turn will set your Life/Death choice. I'll try to make this smarter in the next update so that it auto-detects this instead of relying on a selector that may be hidden.

Another bug I found this may have already been posted. It seems that bonus spell points from your casting tradition do not factor in to the validation for prepared spell points. So I clearly have 7sp, but if I prepare more than 5 sp in spheres it gives an error.

EldritchWeaver, I think this guy's after your crown...

What can I say, I'm running Reign of Winter as a spheres of power and path of war game, so I've been converting a lot of NPCs in preparation (thank god for the fan-made encounter library though, makes it easy). To that end I stumble across some bugs and figure why not list em.

New Bug: For the expanded options bit, not all the witch patrons are working with the magical talents. I chose vengeance for example and couldn't select anything, despite the book saying that gives me extra destruction.

I just installed the Spheres of Power and then I installed the Expanded Options.
Since I installed the Expanded Options, this is the what I get every time I open Hero Lab....

The data files could not be loaded due to errors. Hero Lab will now attempt to load them in recovery mode. Once loaded, you can access the editor as normal to correct any errors.

Now I cannot use Spheres of Power at all....

That tag error suggests to me that your core SoP file isn't up to date. If you haven't already, check out the readme file from the main SoP package and follow the instructions on how to set up the update URL. Then you can update to the latest version (which is 1.9 as of this writing), and that ought to take care of it for you.

That is strange, I loaded everything and the system informed me that everything was up to date.

I went in and updated anyway. It fixed the problem. Thank you for your assistance. :)

You're not the first to mention that. I think I'm getting something wrong with the update mechanism that's preventing HL from properly notifying you when updates are available. I'll be looking into that soon.

I'm also going to start making sure that any time I release a supplement package (like SoPEx or a handbook), I also give DDS an up-to-date version of the core package. That way anyone who buys both at once can load them up and be working straight away even if they don't set up the update URL.

Basically two version numbers to keep in sync. The one you do when you build the .hl file. And then you have to update the updates.xml file (ie the URL) to match that version.

If you look at the Pathfinder Pack updates.xml in a browser:
http://www.shadowsoftware.net/herolab/d20pfsrd/updates.xml

The major="1" minor="3" elements must match to the version that is being released. For community Pack v1.3 is the current release...

I do have that part set up. At least, I'm 95% sure it's right - it works as far as refreshing the available version in the updates menu, it just doesn't give that "hey there's a new version of this package" notification when you first load the game system. I'm going to shoot you my files so you can see if there's anything I'm doing wrong.

Level 6 ranger, wis +3, DC showing up as 13. Isn't it supposed to be 14, or did I read the rules wrong?

That depends on the actual caster level. If you have the -3 default option still on, then it should be 10 + (3/2)/2 + 3 = 13. In the other case, 10 + (6/2)/2 + 3 = 14.

I was operating under the *minimum 1* that's usually associated with cutting things in half, but I see that's not actually printed in the SoP book.

You have a 5th level human character, with 6 feats chosen. You should only have four, three for character level, and one for being human. Your images show that you are granted 2 "combat feats" that you HAVEN"T chosen. Delete two of the feats you selected on the "Feats" tab, and then select them on the "Spiritualism Tradition" tab. That should clear your errors.
