Do Wizard cantrips require something different?

I created some new spells for my campaign. They are mostly variants of existing spells so most of them are just a matter of using "copy" and changing some parameters and description. Everything has turned out well except for a cantrip that I created, Ray of Fire. It is nothing more than a variant of Ray of Frost. It shows up as available for a Sorcerer to choose so I know I did everything correctly; however, it does not show up as a spell that I can add to a Wizard's spellbook. The spell is simply not there when i click on the edit button to add it to the spellbook. I double checked the editor to make sure I checked "Wizard" under "Classes." All of the other spells that I have created (none of which are cantrips) appear just fine. Am I missing something? Thank you.

Did you do a New(Copy) vs an existing wizard cantrip to see if any additional Tags are needed specific to wizard cantrips?

I can't remember off the top of my head if its a tag or that you have to bootstrap the cantrip to a mechanic to get it live.

Yes, I just simply copied Ray of Frost and changed the description and things like effect and what not to show that the spell is fire instead of cold. I didn't really change much. I did the same thing with multiple spells: fireball, meteor swarm, cone of cold. They all worked just fine. Also, the new spell did show up as available for the sorcerer class just not the wizard class even though wizard is also checked.

So that leads to the 2nd point that you will need to bootstrap the spell to a Mechanic. I am pretty sure the wizard spellbook are looking for live Picks to display in the spellbook. I got home so late from work I never had a chance to look last night.

So make a new Mechanic on the Mechanic tab. Bootstrap the cantrip to the mechanic. Then reboot HL and see if it now displays for the wizard.

The other alternative, if you don't want this spell to appear in all wizard spellbooks, and instead be manually added is to check the "Don't Include Free in Spellbooks" box on the spell. That will make it show up on the list of spells to choose from when adding spells to your spellbook, even though this is a 0-level wizard spell. Without that option, HL assumes that all the 0-level spells are already in your wizard's spellbook, and it doesn't need to show them among the spells that can still be added.

Well, first of all, thank you for taking the time to respond to my post; I really appreciate it. I really couldn't understand what you were telling me to do because I have only used the editor for only simple things (never bootstrapped anything mostly copied stuff and modified it). Like I said, all the other spells that I created showed up as available to add to Wizard's spellbook without any problem. It was only an issue with the cantrip. Looking around, I also notice the Magus had the same problem with that spell (which also involved a spellbook). That being said, I found a work around. When I click on the "option" button on the spellbook (both Wizard and Magus) and check "character ignores physical spellbooks" the Ray of Fire appears so I am happy with that. Thanks again.

Lol, Mathias, I just figured that out. Thanks anyway. I guess your post appeared just as I was composing my post to ShadowChemosh.

P.S. I misread your post, I had not figured that out. I was talking about something different. Your way works perfectly. Thank you very much!
