To prevent miscreants from changing the authoring information and claiming
the files as their own (yes, someone actually did this) you can 'lock'
files to a single computer. Since you, as you say, inherited them from
someone else, it might be worth sending the previous author the file you
need unlocked and asking them to unlock it. If they can't, or if they've
disappeared, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Investigate the 'accu' race attribute and all your questions should be
answered. There's one example of this in 'cr.wf6' of the warhammer files.
