Just wondering,

Is there a reason the Grand Master of the Deathwing, cannot have a
chainfist? If I am reading my codex right, he should be able to.

I just looked at the Codex, and may have seen your confusion.

The entry says (Terminator only) but it has an * after it, which
means that you have to have terminator armor to take the weapon.

As the Grand Master of the Deathwing, is very much a Terminator, he
should get it.

Also the entries for the Librarian, and Chaplin are the same way.

Just FYI,

I'm working on a set for Heavy Gear but I've barely started. I need to get
the Miniatures book to see the format of the new datacards.

Hello, chaps.

Currently in the 40k files, if you're an Independent Character you can take
Artificer or Terminator Armour - even if you then take a Command Squad. Is
this correct?

The case for:

I'm sure I read this somewhere, but I can't remember where. Can anyone
remember if it was specified in White Dwarf?

The case against:

From the latest GW Q&A:

1) The HQ Characters' entry states that they are Independent Characters
unless accompanied by a Bodyguard. The Armory section then goes on to list
items, and note that many can only be taken by an Independent
Character. If the HQ character does take a bodyguard, then is he no longer
an Independent Character and therefore cannot take those Independent
Character items like Terminator armor?
Correct.

Normally I'd change it like a shot, but as I said I'm sure I saw the
question answered differently elsewhere. Can anyone corroborate this?

Thanks.

Yes, I imagine that's why somebody "accidentally" removed wh40kmaster's
posting priviledges. Oh no wait, I did it on purpose. Still, it all
balances out in the end, I suppose.

*poink* Say what? I distinctly remember reading from an official GW source
previously that the opposite was true, that they *could* still take IC
items. Could you give me a URL or source for that FAQ?

Exactly, hence my conf00zion.

I got them in the latest GW Q&A, which I've just uploaded to the Vault:

Taking a Command squad doesnt stop a character from getting IC-only
equipment.

Yes, but *where* does it say that? We all seem to know it, and know that
we've read it somewhere, but where?

I found it in the W40K 2001 GT Clarifications
page 21 (as counted by acrobat), at the top (the first entry in the
Space Marine section).

The White Dwarf comment is relevant, though, if someone finds an answer
there.

1. The HQ Characters' entry states that they are Independent
Characters unless accompanied by a Bodyguard. The Armory
section then goes on to list items, and note that many
can only be taken by an Independent Character. If the HQ
character does take a bodyguard, then is he no longer an
Independent Character and therefore cannot take those
Independent Character items like Terminator armor.

Subject: W40K - A few notes from the GT 2001 clarifications

I spent a while reading the 2001 GT Clarifications file, and came across
a few things.

Orks:
23. Lootas may take the transport option from a squad.

(I also can't think why they couldn't take the options from a Steel
Legion squad instead of regular I-Guard (giving them a chimera))

Why is mortar squad listed as an option for them to emulate? It's not
in my codex: Orks.

Chaos:
14. The article on Cult Terminators (WD230) says that the
player can upgrade his terminators to Khorne Berzerkers,
Thousand Sons, Noise Marines or Plague Marines. All use
the Chaos Terminator profile, cost 56 points base and are
amended as follows: -
Khorne Berzerkers get +1 attack;
. Plague Marines are Toughness 5;
. Noise Marines get +1 attack, they may replace their
combi-bolter with a sonic blaster at an additional
cost of 5 points. Up to three models in a squad can
replace their combibolters with a blastmaster @ +20
pts or a doom siren @ +10 pts;
. Thousand Sons have 2 wounds, are immune to wounds
caused by shooting hits of less than Strength 5 and
may not initiate an assault.

The changes are that sonic blasters are a 5 point (not 10) upgrade, doom
sirens are allowed, and Thousand sons get 2 wounds

Also, in the "Putting the Tzap Into Tzeentch" article in WD 234 (pg 81),
it specifically says that cult squad aspiring champions (and transport
vehicles) may only have the mark of their patron god.

Ok, You will have to rewite the interface, but its not as much
trouble as you think, you know the lay out, you know how you want it
to work, you know that it works. How long would it take you to
rewrite that same interface in VC? about 15 mins? If that. Once you
have spent the time learning how the GTK+ works, your will find its
not much harder than VC. Just no GUI to the controls. Tweeking
placement and such might take some time. But overall its not going to
be that hard. Having used VC and GTK, I will readily admit that the
Windows API Calls will have to be re-referenced. But the same result
should occur.

GTK is native X windows, and you will have to learn about X windows
funtions and the way it works. But anything you can do in MS Windows
can be done with about the same amount of effort in X windows.
Granted that the easy user interfaces have not been written yet. But
coding is about the typed word, not a fancy GUI. (At least for the
old schoolers, I learned C/C++ from a subset called LPC, which is
completly text based, and you used ed to enter and correct code).

Now. In interest of good will, I am willing to say, your right. It
will take a lot of effort, and hard work, to port this. It may not
now or ever be worth the effort to you. But, assuming you ever do,
please feel free to look me up for some help.

I'd just like to point out that Tourney rules arent valid against an entire
game system played throughout the world - they only come into play for that
particular tourney
