Tim Huckleberry of GWUS has mentioned a few times that All races can ONLY use the lists for their races, and the general "Imperial" list is to be used for armies such as Chaos, Space Marines, IG, SoB, Cultists.... basically Humans. Chaos is the only 'race' that has access to 2 lists.
Here's another question. Anybody else notice that, at lest in the WD it came out in, the prices for Twin-Bolters and Sonicblasters for Chaos were different in the article table and in the summary table?
Jonathan Hurley <silvercat@dreamseeker.org> wrote:
Which are nifty... But... Is the intent of them to allow all races access to

Thanks for all the work, Colen.

But the rules in WD have no such restriction. Indeed, since orks for
example can take looted vehicles why would they not have access to
looted weapons? Furthermore said weapons also come with a BS category of
2, standard ork BS, whereas humans have a BS of 3. That said I've no
problem should WD clarify that the unspecified weapons chart is humans,
mutants and chaos only.

Two things:
1) I think I figured out why you can't recreate the
cost of the Berzerker Dreadnought from the White
Dwarf. I'm guessing that Graham used the cost of
twin-linked Boltguns from the Chaos list (5 points),
insted of making a twin-linked Boltgun from the new
rules (3 points). That explains the 2 point
difference.
2) In Army Builder, is it possible to adjust the speed
setting for vehicles? I was trying to recreate the
Dark Eldar vehicle, and couldn't change the speed from
Normal to Fast. Did I just miss something obvious?

I ran into this too, I was trying to make a tank agile, and the only

To increase a vehicles speed, you give it the souped up engines ability,
look under that heading and you will find that walkers and war machines that
take this option are then counted as being Agile. Tanks and other things
(except immobile of course) become Fast.
That is why you can't make a walker fast or a tank agile.
To make a tank (the dark eldar one your talking about) fast, you must make
it either a tank or light vehicle. Then when you give it souped up engines,
it will make the vehicle fast.
Hope this helps,

that's only with souped up engines, there's a points chart for giving
vehicles their speed (Agile: small +10 pts; normal +15 pts; war
machine +30 pts - or something like that)

No, I think the error here is Colin's (no offence
If the only
option to change the speed of a vehicle was to give it souped-up
engines, than this chart wouln't apper:
Cost Of Speed
The cost of the vehicles speed is found on the chart below, by
cross-referencing the vehicles size and speed.
Speed Small Normal War Machine
Immobile 0 0 0
Normal +5 pts +10 pts +20 pts
Lumbering +5 pts +10 pts +20 pts
Agile +10 pts +15 pts +30 pts
Fast +10 pts +20 pts +40 pts
Flyer +40 pts +40 pts +40 pts

why can't you... it seems rather simple to make an agile eldar/dark
eldar tank... or what happens of you wanted to build a void phantom (the
eldar scout titan)....

I understand the Souped-up Engine concept, having read
the article in White Dwarf. But there's also a Cost of
Speed chart that allows you to set a vehicles speed,
based on it's size. The Dark Eldar Rampage, from the
article, is a Light (or Small) Fast vehicle. According
to the chart, this should be +10 points.
Souped-up Engines are only for Lumbering Vehicles and
Walkers, not other vehicles.

Well, there's Frateris Militia and Hive Gangers - basically your
generic 10-50 cultist-type units - they have BS 2. And yes, the
rules in the WD have no such restriction on selection, but that's the
intention, and I'm sure you'll be seeing an FAQ on it soon enough, so
you might as well start playing that way.
It does make sense for Orks to be able to loot imperial weapons. I
imagine these rules wil be eventually designated "Opponents
permission only". If that happens, you might as well cook up a few
Ork vehicles with imperial weapons, since anything you field would
need your buddies' permission anyways, regardless of what's on it.

----> a'ight, the way it works is this. According to the chart, you find the size of your creation, small normal or war machine. then you cross reference that with the type, walker, tank, light vehicle, flyer, or immobile. that lists the speed of your creation. That's the only speed you can have. you can't get a War Machine sized Tank that the list says is Lumbering and buy it's basic speed as Fast for +40 points. You pay the basic points cost of +20 points for Lumbering. That's the ONLY speed it can have. If you want it to go faster, you can instead give it Souped-Up Engines, IF it has 5 or less Structure Points. According to the Souped-Up Engines footnote, since it's Lumbering, you can upgrade the speed to Agile. So then you look up the new points cost. So, instead of paying +20 for it being Lumbering, you are instead paying +30 for it being Agile. Regardless, to give a vehicle a speed other than the speed that the chart designates for them, you HAVE to do it through the Souped-Up Engines Upgrade.

----> No. You're wrong on part of that (or I'm totally deluded on all of this). The Rampage is a Light Vehicle. It's Normal Size. according to the chart on P 76, it's got Normal speed. It should have souped up Engines listed in the datafax, but it doesn't. That's the ONLY way it can upgrade it's speed to Fast. Regardless, work out the points cost, he's paying +20 for fast, not +10 for Normal. And like i said, according to common sense, you can only increase the speed through Souped-Up Engines. Or at least, it's looking like Colen and I and most everybody else i've talked to has come to that some conclusion.
Souped-up Engines are only for Lumbering Vehicles and
Walkers, not other vehicles.
----> No. Souped-up Engines are for ANY vehicles except one. If a War machine had 6+ Structure points, it can't have them. Otherwise, Lumbering vehicles and walkers can be upgraded to Agile. All other Vehicles can be upgraded to Fast. And you pay for that new speed class instead of the speed class that they are REQUIRED to have by the chart on p 76.

The chart appears because the souped up engines entry says to refer to the
chart. It is there for your basic speed cost and the cost when you use
souped up engines.

why can't you... it seems rather simple to make an agile eldar/dark

that's a good question, but by that same token why have the chart

Here's another question. Anybody else notice that, at lest in the WD it came out in, the prices for Twin-Bolters and Sonicblasters for Chaos were different in the article table and in the summary table?
Jonathan Hurley <silvercat@dreamseeker.org> wrote:

To increase a vehicles speed, you give it the souped up engines ability,
look under that heading and you will find that walkers and war machines that
take this option are then counted as being Agile. Tanks and other things

These are some of the vast assumptions I had to make, due to the
appalling holes in the vehicle creation rules

I assumed that everyone could get the normal list, and other races could
also get their racial weapons.

Thanks!

Incompetence. Based on the "Souped Up Engine" text, I stick by my
current modelling of it - otherwise, why have a Souped Up Engine upgrade
at all?

It isn't agile, I think.

Once is the 'vehicle upgrade' entry, the other time is the one from the
big list o' weapons.

Because the ab-files are straight CA and Rulebook stuff, I would suggest
leaving them exactly as they are in the WD article. Holes and all....AB is
a tool that people should be using as a supplement to the rulebooks and CA
articles. Not as a replacement.
I have always admired your stance on 'show it to me in a CA article or
rulebook.'
Thanks for the hard work

I'd quite like to nail Tim Huckelbury's feet to the floor, and I mean
that in the nicest possible sense of the word. Someone ask him what
weapons Orks are meant to get when they have a targetter, and what they
pay for them?

The chart appears because the souped up engines entry says to refer to the
chart. It is there for your basic speed cost and the cost when you use
souped up engines.
=] hope this helps.

No, I think the error here is Colin's (no offence

option to change the speed of a vehicle was to give it souped-up
engines, than this chart wouln't apper:
Cost Of Speed
The cost of the vehicles speed is found on the chart below, by
cross-referencing the vehicles size and speed.
Speed Small Normal War Machine
Immobile 0 0 0
Normal +5 pts +10 pts +20 pts
Lumbering +5 pts +10 pts +20 pts
Agile +10 pts +15 pts +30 pts
Fast +10 pts +20 pts +40 pts
Flyer +40 pts +40 pts +40 pts
> That is why you can't make a walker fast or a tank agile.
why can't you... it seems rather simple to make an agile eldar/dark
eldar tank... or what happens of you wanted to build a void phantom (the
eldar scout titan)....

that's a good question, but by that same token why have the chart
here...maybe it (souped up engines) was intented to kick it into the
next speed band based on the zoggin' 'uge engine strapped to the back
of the tank/walker/truck/whatever

I have been able to create any of the DE vehicles listed, have not tried the
sissy eldar ones though.
Although they cost WAY more to create yourself than to just buy out of the
codex
just adding more email to the pile....D
