We are starting a game using HL and d20pro with 1 player Skyped in. Has anyone else done this and what are your thoughts? Also how do you input HL info into d20pro?

Frodie, easily done.

Hero Lab has the option to Save Custom Output. The top option on there is to Export for D20pro.

Remember where you put this file.

The file is then imported into D20pro in the Library section. When you hit Import here, one of the Options is Hero Lab. All you have to do is to browse to the location on the computer where it is at.

It gets more complicated if the DM is not the one doing this.

In that case either the player has to email you file or some how get it to the DM.

OR...
The player has to have a GM license also.. they import it into their local campaign, then Export it back out of the library which puts into the d20pro format.
When they are connected to you, they can upload it to you. Those instructions are on the d20pro website.

When importing to d20Pro, be careful, you're gonna have to make a few adjustments.

First, go through the skills. Because of the XML file and the way things are imported, Class skills that a character didn't spend any ranks on will get the +3 trained bonus. Also, the way that the craft and profession skills are input for the d20Pro PF rules set, versus the way they're input in Hero Lab (the difference of a colon I believe), means that they are not imported as skills, and you'll have to manually add them.

Second, double check all the attacks. Two-handed weapons are often input at 1 handed, making the Str bonus off, and any melee weapon that can also be thrown is automatically adjusted by Dex rather than Str for the attack.

Finally, while Hero Lab imports the character with abilities with the correct number of usages, the rest of it is empty, and you'll have to input the effects of abilities yourself.

Hey,

I am working on files for the Modern Path for d20pro. I know Hero Lab works well for this, but what is the best way to include archetypes. In the Modern Path, there is only one class, "Modern Hero", and the archetypes all have thier own class features: i.e. hit dice, attacks, saves etc.

So what is the best way to add the archetypes? Should they go into the class file?

Thank you!

I can't help you on the ModernPath thing, but my groups experience using d20pro and herolab, after making sure everything is correct, has been a great one.

We haven't used Skype, but rather the google hangout through google+. Our whole group can get together and game while separated geographically.

d20pro takes a little work on the backend for a gm but the result is great come game time. We even use the program along with Hero Lab at the table when we're together. I don't think our experience with d20pro would be the same if we had to enter the pcs/monsters/npcs into the program without HeroLab... One is very good at one thing, character generation/record keeping, and the other very good at another, virtual tabletop, but when you put them together it is a great experience! Add to that the ability to skype or whatever your video/voice chat of choice is and your gaming experience will only grow.
