d20pro + Realm Works = happy dance

Second that statement. Been working with CC since version 1 and I still find it difficult to use. Beyond powerful, I mean its a full CAD engine under the hood, but its not easy, inuitive, nor fun to learn. However once you do, it is only limited by your imagination.

I suppose "fun to learn" is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I loved learning it. Might be the type of personality. But its definitely not intuitive if you think you are getting a image manipulation software.

I find CC3 awkward to use at the best of times & that's coming from 11 years of using AutoCAD & 3D Studio professionally.

Back on topic: Is there any link to an actual statement about d20pro + RW integration in the kickstarter? I don't want to back on a "maybe" or "supposedly". If there's no official RW integration, then I'd rather just use my own custom VTT.

Honestly, I really wonder about their ability to integrate. I've had integration issues with custom HeroLab portfolios. And that's just XML. RealmsWorks is orders of magnitude more complex.

Out of curiosity, you wrote your own VTT? Is that what you mean by your own custom one?

We've shared a booth with the d20pro guys at GenCon for multiple years now. We discussed how the integration would work this past week. More discussions are definitely needed, and nothing is finalized at this stage, but we're definitely working from the same playbook. So I'd say the likelihood of there being good integration between Realm Works and d20pro is pretty darn high. :)

Sure did. I wrote my own combat map app for the iPad (which imports HL .por files). It then uploads the PC data to a php / MySQL website. The players have their own client interface (written for the PC) which grabs the updated data every few seconds, then displays it on their own screens.

We used it for a few Skype games, but I started having problems due to my web host blocking connections to various ISP's.

Thanks for chiming in Rob. If that's the case then it gives me more confidence about becoming a backer.

Due to this thread I downloaded the demo copy of d20pro to check it out. As far as I can tell this is for online gaming. It there a way to get this to work with a projector......ie all player at the table, and the view changes based on who's turn it is?

I'm with you. All the VTTs I see seem to primarily be for online play and need work arounds for face-to-face at the table (running a 'player' account at the same time for example). I just need something to run combats because the table's not big enough for the type of battles at the level we've reached.

Cheers
Mark

I've only ever seen d20pro used at the table, since my group is all local. And that's how they demo the product in the booth at GenCon every year. So I know that's a standard usage model for the product. Unfortunately, I've never been the one to run those games, so I don't know the technical details of using it that way.

I recommend you post this question on the d20pro forums or in the Kickstarter comments so that you can get an official answer.

I think with d20pro, you do this by double clicking on the appropriate person in the roster.

I dont use it myself. (I still use MapTool, because i care more about the map effects than the integration with combat, and in that, MapTools is still the best, IMO)

AMAZING news!!! Love to see companies work together to make indpendant products function as if they were part of the same ecosystem. I know its hard, I know its a tremndous amount of work, but the pay is equally huge.

Thanks for the "personal" clarification Rob.

I use d20pro both online and at the table.

For at the table, I use a laptop with an old 20" monitor attached. I run the GM copy on the laptop screen and I run a second instance logged in as a player on the second monitor. I give the mouse to the players and use the trackpad for myself -- only one person gets to control the pointer at a time. That way players can move and if they want, select combat actions. I sometimes do both movement and combat based on what they are saying and that flows faster.

I give everyone control of everyone. I can always veto actions and it speeds things up as some people prefer not to mess with the VTT aspects so they delegate to others that really enjoy it.

For me, the story is more important than the mechanics. d20pro takes care of most of the rolling leaving me time to focus on what people are saying.

I'm seriously looking at a larger touchscreen for the player side (and as a secondary monitor with touch capability for myself on non-game days).

thats was my setup as well. (just used a differen VTT) I used to have one hooked up to a TV with a wireless mouse/keyboard. I give everyone control of everyone too, but i still like having different player "views", so you can only see what your character can see.

thats the bare minimum, in my opinion. I guess you could do a DM only, but it makes it harder to "hide" things from players.

Thats simialr in what I want to do, we have spare 24' monitor and RW/HL/D20 will be run on my lappy. I want a player view on the monitor for all to see, but will also allow everyone to login as well with their own lappy, every around our table has a windows lappy/tablet.

When in combat, D20 will be on the monitor, when in normal play I will have RW on the monitor. Going to buy a lazy susan for it so I can swing it around, as I would like ot put up Bestiary pics too, expand them up to full screen to show thebadies they are fighting but no info. With the lazy susan I can make sure of what they see, before they see it.

@exmortis I'd setup your situation the same as mine. Login as both GM and player on your machine. Have the others log in as players on theirs. You have both views available to you that you can spin around for RW/d20pro to them. I'm taking advantage of the Kickstarter to boost my player seats from 4 to 8 for flexibility and future growth as they are also looking at expanding onto tablets over the next two years.

I really like the lazy susan idea as there are times that I'd like to use both monitors and not have the players distracted with watching the monitor. :) Low tech for the win!

Yeah I bought the +4 guest seats as well, I know a few will buy player version but having a few extra works. I am also thinking of buying into early access for another $15.

I'm a supporter, but I also have my limits.... An extra month of d20pro isn't quite enough bang for the buck for me. Especially since the roadmap that's been up for months states 2014 for almost all of the items to be implemented whereas the release is slated for early 2015 at the earliest which means summer more than likely.

They need to make pre-release a this-year affair for me to bite that bullet.
