Changing of license?

As I have completely migrated from D&D3.5 to D&D4, your implementation of this system is really exciting news!

Being a DDI subscriber as well, my needs are covered by Wizard's Character Builder - for now. The 3rd party (home-rules) data support of the CB leaves a lot to be desired, which will limit me in the foreseeable future, which in turn makes use of HeroLab sdeem like a good idea.

So, can I exchange my D20-license of HeroLab for the Savage Worlds one, which - as far as I know - includes the complete Authoring Kit?

We've currently got no means of "trading in" one license for another, and I'm not sure that's going to even be possible. The issue is that most games we develop data files for are handling under a royalty-based license from the publisher. We'd have convince those companies to let us "take back" that royalty payment in order to give it to a different publisher if a user decided to trade in one game system for another. I don't see that happening. There's also the matter of orchestrating it all on the server, with all the corresponding bookkeeping and reporting that would be involved.

The Savage Worlds game system and Authoring Kit are part of the same "game system license", so you are correct in your interpretation. All games created and distributed under the Authoring Kit are part of that license option.

Hopefully, you'll find that HL's customization, extensibility, and in-play support are worth the one-time $20 expense. If I'm not mistaken, that's not much more than one month of DDI subscription, and it's a one-time expense, so it's a pretty good deal. :-)

To be honest, right now I'm very satisfied with my DDI subscription and don't see the need to change. The most probable trigger would be the in-game support, but this demands that I can convince my wife that we *do* need a laptop. ;-)

Thanks for your answer and congrats to your data migration tool. This sounds really cool.
