I don't believe so, you should have bought a laptop with a CDROM! But you
could also get an external CDROM too.

At the price, and the useage, it was ok, (paid 100bucks US for it).

I do have a borrowed PCMCIA CDROM drive, but I dont get to keep it.

....Now if I could just find that laptop mouse I bought by accident a
few weeks ago....

I will look around for a PCMCIA CDROM drive, but unless its used I
doubt I will get one, its not that important. I can always create
them as HTML pages and transfer to the laptop.

Armybuilder lite will work, but man thats a pain. There should be a
way to import into full version the lite versions (are you listening
Rob?)

About the only thing I can see to do is an external CD-ROM drive...

Greetings.

I own the boxed CD version of Armybuilder.

Using it on my home PC, the CD check is not a problem, annoying but
not a problem. Well I just bought a Laptop that I am dedicating to
wargaming (paid $100 for it, at that price I can afford to).

Problem is there is no CDROM drive in it.

Is there a way to go CDROM-less with the boxed set? I am not paying
again for something I already own. I am planning to remove it from my
home PC (so it shuts the wife up as well) as soon as I get it on my
laptop.

Thank you.

Virtual Drive - I've got the web address at work, email me if you
need it - it emulates the CD drive of a machine, then you load the file you
had created when you borrowed the external cd, and load army builder from
the file, and voila. The most important thing to remember is *DO NOT
VIOLATE YOUR LICENSE*!!! Always make sure to not run duplicates of the
program...

I'm trying to get caught up now. Sorry for the long delay...

There is no official solution for this. All I can suggest is that you
obtain a CD emulator. While this isn't 100% compliant with the technical
details of the license, you have already purchased the CD. Therefore, I
personally would consider you compliant with the spirit of the license if
you used an emulator. :-)

Thanks, Rob

No problem, and this was suggested privately by several people, I am
still trying to get the emulator working on my laptop (having trouble
with the pcmcia CDROM), but thats the solution I have chosen.

I also see why its not in complance with the license, as its the only
computer the program will be running on.

(plan to remove it from my home based PC as soon as its running on
the laptop).

Also, any word on the Mage Knight files?

Emulating a CD is (can be) simpler than that. What I've done is create a
partion that is as big as the amount of data on the CD (~60 mb for AB, iirc)
and copy the entire CD into that partition. Then just go to the partion and
run the install files- the program assumes that because its on its own drive
and all the files are there (and none others are on that drive), that it
must be the CD. I;ve never had to do it with Army Builder (I just use the
CD), but its worked the few times I've tried it.

BTW, the reason I figured this out in the first place was trying to get a
game to run faster. HD are MUCH faster than CD drives, so I figured if I
could fool the comp inot thinking the HD WAS a CD, it would run faster. It
works great- games that don't ofer a "full install" run WAY faster this way.

And yes, this does technically violate the ABCD liscense. I would ask
permission before doing it.

That's a good idea in general. Unfortunately, it won't work with AB. :-( If
the source drive isn't a CD drive, AB won't recognize it properly. A true
emulator is necessary to enable AB to think it's talking to a CD.

Thanks, Rob
