Catch-22 with new biuld

I've got a catch-22 here. I had RW open and in use this evening and when I went to sync before shutting down I got an error that there was a newer build available and it could not sync. However, when I said, OK, upgrade, it balked again because I wasn't synced. What do I do? What is the proper procedure for when an upgrade it released while you're using the software?
