can't recieve e-mails

Keith9

Member
Trying to buy a different core data package. get to the verify e-mail and never receive the actual e-mail. I've reactivated, and updated the Hl but still don't receive the e-mail. the troubleshooter said that wolflair.com doesn't exist. other messages I get from inside the HL say that the sever default( or some such) is not setup properly. I figure it's my on my end but still need help.

Hey Keith9, sorry to hear that you're encountering problems! :( Can you please email support@wolflair.com? There's some information we'll want to get from you (license number, email, etc.) that I'd rather not collect over the public forums. :)

links not working

even the link above doesn't work. send the e-mail yesterday from my service and got the automated reply. so somehow it may be your links.

yes and I've even received e-mails from the forum side to sign up for the forums to start this thread. So if it were spam settings I would not have received those either right??, even got the automated replies from support numbered 70162and 70161. but when I use a lone wolf provided link as in reply #2 above I get:

" could not preform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."

this is the error message I get when I try to send e-mails to the techs at support@wolflair.com

So I really don't believe it's a spam problem. nor a browser issue.

Are you just clicking on that email link? Because the above message is your browser saying it has no idea what application to execute to send the mail.

So for example on my work laptop it would start Outlost. But at home I have no email client setup. So I copy it. Open Gmail and then paste it into a new email.

So if you have a browser based email address like "gmail or yahoo" most browsers will not auto open up those.

I don't know for sure. use an e-mail addy from my cable company not hotmail or gmail ect. but it is only thur the links I get this problem. but it had to have worked before when I downloaded the HL right? same browser and cable company. So any ideas? could I use a different computer or tablet to start the process and mine computer to complete the sale??

You could do that. Just to confirm, you can bring up your cable company's email address website and send mail through there, right? If so, just copy and paste the address. That will, at the least, work on your emailing Support.

And do check your spam folder. I have several websites where most of their emails come through, but a few get snagged because they tripped something.

Not necessarily. Spam filters don't necessarily look for one element by default. They sometimes look for a combination of elements. So you could, conceivably, get several messages from the same sender where some make it through and some do not. It would all depend on the composition of the email message and its headers.

but when I use a lone wolf provided link as in reply #2 above I get:

" could not preform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."

I take it you use your web browser for email. You log in to your internet provider's web site, and click on a link to check your email. If you hover your mouse over the link in the #2 reply, you'll notice it starts with "mailto: ..."

You're clicking on a link with a protocol definition in front of it. When you click on it, your computer sees that protocol definition and wants to open the program appropriate for that protocol.

For example, links for web pages, I'm sure you've noticed, all start with "http:". So when you click on that link, you're telling your computer, "find the program on my computer that understands the http protocol", and that's usually your default web browser.

When you click on a "mailto:" link, you're telling your computer, "find the program on my comptuer that understands the mailto protocol". The problem is that if you use your web browser to check your email, it doesn't understand the mailto protocol, so your computer comes back and says, "I can't find an appropriate program."

You can either copy and past the address in the link, or you can install a dedicated email program like Thunderbird or "em Client" or something similar.

This would not explain why you're not receiving email, but it would explain why you get an error message when clicking on links to send email.

Thanks for explaining that for me.

But all I want to do is get the shadowrun 5 downloaded. I won't put in my info if I can't get the verifying e-mail.

not even receiving from my phone or another computer, not heard from support in 2 days.

Beginning to wonder if you guys want to make a sale?????:rolleyes:

If you go to the Windows Control Panel (I'm looking at Windows 7), and select "Default Programs".

From there, you can find the name of your e-mail program and choose the "Set this program as default". This will then allow the e-mail links in your web browser to send an e-mail.

Lone Wolf is a very small company, less than 10 people when I worked there a few years ago. 2-3 business days is not unusual at all.

So, if I'm understanding your messages correctly, you successfully sent out a request, but you never received the necessary confirmation email. You tried going through Hero Lab where it says something like "click here if you're having problems" and you got the same error message that you get above when you click on an email link, that a default application is not configured?

You have a few options. One of them is to just copy and paste those emails into your cable company's web-based email client. Another is to use a mailing application such as Outlook or Eudora and configure it to use your ISP's program (not available in all areas). Lastly, you could switch to something like GMail which is free and offers an application that can be called as the "default mail application" which then contacts the website.

Any way about it, you should have received the confirmation email. If you've checked your spam folders and it really isn't coming up, you need to copy and paste the email address into your browser email or, if you are already in a dialog with support, you should be able to reply back to the latest email to let them know that you still have not received your confirmation email. The odds are decent that your email address isn't quite right in the system and they can fix that.

Keith, please keep the troubleshooting to the support ticket I have going with you. My only instructions in the support email were to tell me if you received the email. It was an important step to see if any emails from our licensing server were getting through to you. I know you're getting frustrated, but working with me through the support system is going to be the best way to get this issue resolved. Responding to you here is going to take time from troubleshooting through the support system. Thank you for your patience.

Finially worked

Today I've reactivated my first Lic # -, then I tried again failed.

Then I followed Eight's advice and Downed loaded and set up Outlook. Changed my e-mail under the Lic menu and ... IT WORKS :):):)

So Eight congrats for being right with this advice. I would also like to thank all the others for their help and sugguestions. and Liz thanks for all the hard work, advice and sheer patience and professionalism you have exhibited the last 3 days.
