Bugs, possibly not recent

I have HeroLab 3.6g and Pathfinder 4.27 but haven't used the character builder for some time, and don't know if these problems came with the latest updates.

I'm build a Bard 7/Ranger 4 and there's a persistent error message telling me that Bard hit points cannot be 0. I entered h.p. for each level of Bard and Ranger, so I don't know where this is coming from.

More importantly on the Skills tab, Bluff is currently at 19 with 0 ranks purchased, and I can't run that number up or down. No problem with any other skills.

Help?!?

The skill would not happen to be purple in color would it? If so that is telling you that it is getting set by your Versatile Performance ability. Only thing I can think of off hand that would do that.

My bad. The Bluff "problem" wasn't one at all. Or rather, the problem was with my understanding of what the Headband of Vast Intellect +2 does. This character is wearing one with Bluff as the associated skill; I'd been under the impression that magic item granted associated skill ranks based on the increased INT (so, +1 rank in this case) rather than the 1 rank per HD of the wearer as I just found.

Bluff should be in purple due to a Versatile Performace, but is not. I'll double check to see that it changes to purple when I remove the headband; the ranks from the headband don't stack with other ranks the character has.

"Bard hit points cannot be 0" remains a mystery, though.

EDIT: Also, Tim, a question regarding availble .user files: those listed at d20PFSRD include a Spellword prestige class but not the Spellsword base class from Tome of Secrets. We have one of the latter in our current game. Will this eventually be available?

The tome of secrets stuff was being done by blzbob and Frodie. I know Frodie is very busy doing the PFRPG-Modern data set.

I don't even own Tome of Secrets but I would assume someone will get to the class and will hopefully share it. So as soon as I get a copy of it I will post it to the sight. :)

That typically means you left a level 2+ class listing with 0 (the default) hit points.

I'll fiddle with it some more but I'm sure I have at least 3hp at every character level.

This is a retroactive build for a character who's just reached 11th L and I have no idea what the actual hp progression was over time, so I'm just plugging in random values at each level that add up to the character's current total. (The player seems to have rolled pretty badly overall; 70hp for a Bard 7/Ranger 4 with a 14 CON -- and after starting with full hp at 1st level.)

Post the .por file and we can look at it.

I was wrong. The 2nd and 3rd levels of Bard had 0 points. If there are gremlins at work here, they aren't in the HL code.

Two (hopefully last) questions regarding this character build, then, which probably aren't bugs given how this thread has gone for me so far --

HL insists on equipping the character with a Light Wooden Shield as a weapon. The text for this item is green and I have no option to remove the item. What does this signify?

HL is prompting me to "Choose 1st L spells" for a 4th L Ranger. Rangers "know" their entire 1st L spell list, and are limited only by how many they can prepare and cast per day, much like Clerics. Her ability bonus gives her 1 extra 1st L spell per day, but there should be no need to select spells known. If I do pick one 1st L spell I'm then told no additional spells can be learned. What's up?

Shields can be used as weapon called a Shield Bash. HL is adding it for you the same as it does with armors that have Gauntlets. This way if you want to shield bash something during the game the stats and info is all their for you already.

You may know but not memorized those spells same as a cleric. So you have to memorize which of the spells known you could cast in a day. So HL is asking for which spell you are memorizing as you are not a spontaneous caster.

Worth checking out Preparing Divine Spells at d20pfsrd. As I may not have explained that very clear.

Shield: Okay, I guess, but she doesn't have a light wooden shield, she has a metal buckler. Not a bug, anyway, so we'll just ignore it on the sheet, and as Unarmed Strike being listed while she's armed.

Spells: Ah. After 30 years of RPGs I remain stuck in the mode of thought that has me using printed character sheets, updated with pencil on the fly. I don't have HL installed on a laptop and don't take it to the game with me, so I wasn't thinking along the lines of updating the .por during play.

So, as I guessed, neither was a bug. Thanks!

Hmm, what buckler? What items do you have that provide shield bonuses? What weapons do you have?

I can't reproduce your error.

As for unarmed, configure hero and you can turn off "always show unarmed strike"
