Bestiary, can you adjust levels?

But doesn't it still have the powers and bonuses of a 8HD creature?

I guess I thought you could adjust a monsters level, like you do a PC.
 
You mean like BAB should be lower because you changed the size of the HD from d8s to d4s (I don't think pathfinder uses a d4 HD anymore, I think d6 is as low as it gets)? Or do you want to lower the number of HD from 8 to 4?
 
There are a few ways to weaken a monster, like apply a young template or some negative level adjustments. Probably the best way to do it would be to copy the monster in the editor, then decrease it's number of HD and save it as a new race. Most races are a pain to do this with though, since we've set up copy protections to slow things down and prevent automation of that. I don't recall if Salamander is one of the easy to copy ones though. Give it a shot.
