Please double-check whether AB works under V1.3 directly. I definitely
remember at least a few people successfully using AB under Linux (I think
using WINE) back before V2.0 was released. Since the CD key mechanism is
the same from V1.x to V2.x, that stuff should still be operational and
there should be no difference between AB recognizing V1 CDs vs. V2 CDs. It
could be that something has changed in WINE that has rendered it unable to
work correctly with the key discs that used to have no problems. The key
disc mechanism does do a few special things to make sure that you are truly
using a CD and not a spoofed file somewhere, so maybe WINE has broken its
handling of these details. I truly have no idea since I have never tried it
myself - I only have the statements from users to go on regarding AB
working under Linux.
If you can come up with a concrete set of instructions for folks using
WINE, we'd be happy to post them on the website in the support section. And
anyone who asks will be forwarded to those instructions. All I require is
that the writing is clear (should be easy since you're a writer), the
technical level is low (so relatively non-technical folks can follow the
steps), and at least two other folks test the instructions on different
machines and verify they work (so installation-specific details are
properly identified and spelled out instead of assumed).
Thanks, Rob
