I have a problem where Army Builder will freeze and end up with a not
responding error. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Yea, I tried that with no effect. It starts fine for any other game
system except for 40K. I can't figure out why it would lock on that
one only.

It's possible that your version of the 40K Datafile is corrupted somehow
(damaged during the Download.) Try downloading the most recent version.

That's the wierd thing it works sometimes and not others. I have also
reinstalled and used an older level with the same results.

Can you give an example of the actions you take to cause a freeze?

What happens is when you are in the screen when you choose a game session
and you choose the 40k option it will then give you the message data files
loading please wait for a moment. The moment unfortunately never ends and it
freezes at that point, Using the Windows three finger salute you then see
that Army Builder is not responding.

It could be not from running other things openly, but the extraneous
stuff running in the background from boot-up. Do the 3-finger salute,
and see how many items are in the Close Program window. If you have a
lot, you might want to prevent some things from running at boot...

I mean it literally all I have on it is Army Builder. When you do the Three

Sorry everyone. I've was out of town at the Seattle GT for the weekend, so
I'm just getting caught up now. :-)

For both of you that have encountered this problem...

What operating system are you using?

Which version of your O/S (e.g. Win95 OSR1 or OSR2, Win98 1st or 2nd
Edition, etc.)?

What are the specs on your computer system?

What is the speed of your CPU? How much RAM?

How large is your swapfile?

How much free disk space do you have?

Which version of AB are you using?

Please get me answers to the above questions and I'll see if I can think of
anything that could be causing the freeze problem.

Thanks, Rob

What operating system are you using?

Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows 2000 (Have it dual booting have the
same problem both sides)

What are the specs on your computer system?

384 MB of Ram (PC100), K6-2 450MHz Processor. 45 GB of Harddrive Split into
3 Mega partitions.

How large is your swapfile?

Um around a 1 Mega, had some spare Drive lefted.

How much free disk space do you have?

Um last check 2 GB (At least until I installed Visual Studio which I just
got)

Which version of AB are you using?

Version 2.1 (1.4 CD)

It doesnt happen everytime, but it always slow loading the 40k Files (I
guess that because of the number of them now), it as only started happening
with the last 4 updates, actually when back to an older one to check, and
didnt have the problem.

I'm baffled on this issue. It's conceivable that the problem is tied to the
size and complexity of the data files, but I really don't know. You've got
plenty of RAM and disk space available, so it's not a matter of running out
of resources. The only characteristic of your system that is "odd" is that
you have a K6 CPU, although there are a zillion K6 processors out there and
I'm sure this problem would be reported by lots of others if it was an
issue with the K6. I'm curious if anyone else out there is using a K6-based
system. And I'd like to know if the other user with this problem is also
using a K6 or something entirely different.

How long does it take the 40K files to load when they are successful? On my
machine (similar performance specs to yours), it takes about 7-8 seconds.
Does your system take substantially longer than that? Please let me know,
since it could be a clue with this.

Could you identify the two versions where the problem first started
occurring for you? Let me know the version that first started failing and
the version that last worked without any problems. If you give me that
information, then I can work with Colen to figure out what new
functionality he started using in that release. Perhaps that will shed some
light on where the problem might be and enable me to figure out what's
going wrong inside the code.

Thanks, Rob

HI Guys,

I was running a K6 2 350 (IBM crap) back in august I upgraded. I had
some problems using the ab2 very minor. What I did was uninstall every
thing data file too. Then I reinstalled every thing and was up and
running. I need it to play the world wide 40k game.

Wes.
