Archmage Prestige Class

Since the Archmage prestige class is in the d20 SRD, I wonder why was it never ported over to Pathfinder.

How would I go about creating the Archmage PrC in Pathfinder with the editor (with adjustments to bring it in line with Pathfinder)?

The only real problem I see is with the prerequisites and the High Arcana abilities.

The Class Levels tab allows you to add in prestige classes manually. Pathfinder is still in the process of porting things over, rebalancing things out as they go. I had to code alot of things from Athas.org while updating them for use in Pathfinder. I run a Dark Sun campaign and find that Hero Lab is an invaluable tool for it.

The Archmage won't be ported over. In Pathfinder the abilities were turned into feats (for the most part). They appear in the Advanced Player's Guide. Their reasoning is any high level wizard is an archmage so why really have the class?

If you want the class you have the option to build it, thats left for you to decide on. I am not as worried about the Archmage as much as I am converting the Arch Defiler.

Hello everyone,

I also seek an Archmage prestige class integration in Herolab.
AndrewD2: As Herolab sourcebooks and adventure modules from Paizo itself liberally assign the Archmage prestige class to NPCs, it is clear that the prestige class is considered part of the Pathfinder RPG (the guidebook to elfs and the last Runelords module are examples).

There is a differebnce between PC classes and NPC classes though. Are you looking for a NPC version or one that players can play?

Your looking at 3.5 Material, not PFRPG material. Things changed when the system changed.

Check out here:
No Archmage?

Hello Chiefweasel,

looking at the effects the prestige class has in each case, I would say this is the original PC class as laid out in the D20 SRD.
Examples are:
Queen Telandia Edasseril, pages 30-31 in Elves of Golarion (High Arcana: Mastery of shaping, spell-like ability)
Karzoug the Claimer, pages 62-63 in Spires of Xin-Shalast (High Arcana: Arcana Fire, Mastery of Elements, Spell Power, Spell-like ability)

Both quotes are from original Paizo-books, so it is no third-party issue.

I made a post with a link explaining it by James Jacobs that seems to be stuck in moderation, but I will just quickly say those books are 3.5 not PFRPG, they removed the class when the system changed.

Hello AndrewD2,

I would usually believe such a statement, if Paizo itself would obey it, but given they have no issues assigning this prestige class to characters in their own books, it is apparently still in use and its effects are the same as the original. This is why I stressed the examples.

Hello AndrewD2,

though that may be, they are also Pathfinder - Golarion books and accordingly are still entirely valid when playing a Pathfinder game, which means the Archmage class is still in effect as far as the Pathfinder gaming group is concernded.
As such, it should be covered by Herolab (aside from the numerous 'has not been implemented yet' spots), so that it can be assigned to PCs and NPCs alike.
It's not like the Herolab-Pathfinder datafiles wouldn't have a d20 section as is, though that still lacks the Archmage prestige class.

Your mixing the Pathfinder Adventure Paths, which is Golarion Fluff, written in 3.5 D&D rules with the Pathfinder CORE rules.

In the Pathfinder RULES there is no longer an Archmage PrC class. The class was broken down into Feats instead. So if converting from 3.5 you would replace the PrC levels with Wizard and simply take the appropriate feats.

If you want to convert the Archmage PrC to Pathfinder for your group as a house rule then the Editor built into HL is what you want to look at. You can create your own .user file that you can give to your game group so that everyone will then have the Archmage PrC available to them in HL. My groups current data set is almost a meg in size with all the additions and changes we have.

As there is no official Pathfinder archmage in the rules it would be impossible for HL to put in an official version.

Hello ShadowChemosh,

thank you for an official reply, though seeing how the HL Pathfinder module already has a d20 section that sports numerous non PF-rules, I find your answer somewhat suprising.

With best regards,
