Archetype

Is there a way to make an Archetype avaiable to all classes?
Also if some does not have the APG and I make a custum Archetype, can they still use it?

The only way to make an archetype for all classes is to create a copy for each class.

If you're thinking of using an archetype to implement a house rule that applies to all characters, I recommend a mechanic instead.

Archetypes are available to all users. There's even a non-APG example - the Ashvawg Tamer Druid Archetype in the Rise of the Runelords adventure path - that was available in HL long before the APG was available. Just find "Use Archetypes" among the settings.

A mechanic sounds cool, but I never messed with them much. Any idea on how to "xyz" Archtype to all classes?

For now, don't concentrate on the method you'll use to add this - what effect do you want to achieve?

Basically I want to convert a Prestige Class to an Archtype, but open to all classes, not just one.

What effect do you want to achieve?

What will happen when this archetype/prestige class gets added?

Prestige Classes are aready available to all classes, what's gained by converting it to an archetype?

The effects would vary, (mostly adding new class abilities).
Not a big fan of Prestige Classes, but I guess I should just leave them that way.

You'll need to explain more about how this works - what is the overall mechanism you're trying to implement?

How does it differ from what's already available? How is it similar to what's already available?

I guess it would work like a template, (which I guess is what I really should use), will level based class abilities that would be in addition to the normal class abilities.
Say I wanted to make a "Scout" Archetype that a Fighter, Ranger and/or Thief could use. No pre-reques needed and your base class would still be Fighter, Ranger and/or Thief etc, but you would also get a few things, (at certain levels), for the Scout Archetype.
I guess, I could put into the Templates, but it really doesn't fit there.

Does this thing take up level slots? Does it modify the way an existing class functions? Does it alter the overall character? Does it do the exact same thing for every character, or do its effects vary depending on the classes/races/other choices you've made for your character? Is it optional, or does everyone have to take it?

yes to all that, and it's optional. But, it's cool, I think I will just stick with the class with no prereq. Thanks anyways.
