Apocalypse-Space Marine Allies of Space Marines

I can't seem to ally Codex Space Marines with Blood Angels (Dark Angels, etc).

This would be a very useful thing to be able to do on one list. While it may bring up some questionable situations, like purchasing the cheaper point unit of the same type (Ex: Codex or BA Devastators), it seems to be well within the concept of Apocalypse where unusual units such as the Terminus Land Raider see duty.

Unfortunately this is partly due to a limitation of the allies system in AB, and because the chapters are sublists of the Space Marines "race" file. It would require a major rewrite to get this to work. Why not just create multiple lists? Say use 1000pts of Dark Angels, and 1000pts of Blood Angels, and just print off two lists that make up the army? It keeps the different chapter units on different sheets too which helps to stop mixing up rules.

If you mean a future edition of AB, that would be entirely up to Lone Wolf and whether it would be of benefit to the wider datafile author base. If you mean a future AB40k release, then unlikely for the forseeable future as it would require the entire Marine filesets to be stripped down and rebuilt as separate "races".

As Spack has noted the entire SM chapter system as it is now would have to be completely scrapped - and such an undertaking with all the work it would entail (not to mention the endless complaints of invalidating old rosters and even older version of AB) would not be done unless the game system explicitly allowed it to happen. The Most Imporant Rule notwithstanding, it would turn into a giant cheesefest in much the same way the old traits system was treated as a joke with every single (player designed) chapter deciding to take We Stand Alone as a drawback...

And as Spack also noted, if you want to use such lists in Apocalypse - separate lists can do the exact same thing without the need to tear down the files. and if you wanted to do this for ordinary games then you can do so now anyway, you would just need to keep track of the FOC slots used.

Be assured that if there was a need, the files would be reformatted - I just don't see the need to do so right now, especially with Codex: Grey Knights on the horizon and what that would mean for Daemonhunters and their current ally system.

Okay.

I get the general idea that it is a major technical issue... and not a minor one. While I "can" make separate lists, my intention was to bring this up in hopes of a change, so that what can be done for one mixed apocalypse army can be done for another... (mine.) I am still very happy with the product and think that everyone does a great job to make the needed fixes.

I won't hold my breath on this one. Thank you all for your responses.
