Any way to get the monster maker separately from hero lab?

I'm looking for a simple program to autocalculate and autoformat monster statblocks for a bestiary book I am writing. Hero Lab seems like it fits my needs, but the demo doesn't provide any idea of how the monster maker works and costs $60 friggin dollars just to test if the monster maker even works and I can't get a refund if I don't like it.

For the record, 99% percent of Hero Lab is useless to me. I don't want a database of classes, abilities, monsters, or whatever. I just want a simple program that autocalculates monster statistics and autoformats it into a neat statblock.

Is there anyway to get the monster maker separately from Hero Lab and all the dross it includes to inflate the price?

I apologize for my crass behavior. I was not in a calm or happy state of mind when I typed those words. Regardless, that does not provide any excuse to have typed what I did. I hereby retract all my previous statements. Thank you.

As far as I know, no, there is no way to get the monster creation aspect of hero lab separately.

Also, "dross it includes to inflate the price" sounds really rude.

Converting monsters into statblocks is a small part of Hero Lab, and far from what the program is designed around doing - it is a complete character management package, both for players and GMs.

As an aside, I distinctly agree with radio's comment about the rudeness of your post. Doubly so if you're looking to publish the book you are working on, as the price is far from extortionate even if you are only interested in one small part of the program.

Is there somewhere on our website that we say we don't offer refunds? If so, could you tell me where that is so that we can correct it?

I recommend trying Hero Lab in demo mode first. The editor is fully functional in demo mode, so that you can test out the process of creating your own monsters.

To the OP: it appears that your complaint is that a piece of character generation software that has a monster maker as a free addition functions as a character generator.

Well, that and that you've assumed that LWD won't refund you.

Desperately trying not to rag on you for your attitude, but the word "entitlement" springs to mind: you want a product that doesn't exist, and when you find a product that happens to include the functionality you want plus LOTS more but you have to get all together, you choose to insult the "lots more", malign the company that produces it, and disparage the years of work involved in making it.

What you should have done is suggest that LWD offer the monster maker as a standalone, perhaps as a purchasable data package for the Beginner Box version of Hero Lab, and see what they said.

Insulting people and their hard work is a good way to not get what you want.

Raneth, I'm sorry to hear that you're unhappy with the product. The monster creator is not sold separately. Please know that refunds are accepted within 60 days of the purchase, per our license terms and conditions that all users must agree to when purchasing the product. As Mathias says, if it says otherwise anywhere on our website, please let us know so we can fix the language (you can PM me on the forums or email support@wolflair.com).

As this has been asked and answered, I'm going to be closing this thread. If you have any additional questions, feel free to start a new thread or reach out to me directly.
