Animal compainion

I've just started playing pathfinder and am trying out the demo version of hero lab. The campaign has started me at level 5 and I am trying to create an animal companion, but every time I level it adds hit dice to my companion and won't let me change/add a class. Is there a way to do this, or is there a rule I'm missing when leveling animal companions?

The Animal Companion is leveled automatically by HL per the rules of Pathfinder. They don't gain class levels.

ok thx, why is there the option for favored class and to add class levels then?

That might be a limitation within the HL program where they can't remove it without some work. I would just ignore it.
