All's quite on the Western Front

These boards have sure slowed down since Liz left. I know LWD doesn't have the time to be on here much, but I worry we are losing some of the excitement and energy. I know part of the issue is the loooonnnngggg time between meaningful updates, and when CM comes along (if not this century, surely the next) that will reinvigorate things. So, this is just a nudge to the community. What interesting RW stuff does everyone have going on at the moment?

Annoyed that I have to restructure my custom category definitions for each realm I have, and anxiously awaiting the update all this silence is no doubt preceding.

Yeah, I have multiple realms as well, and would love to be able to "copy" my customizations from one realm to another. If what we have heard about being able to duplicate realms with the CM update turns out to be true it will be a great relief.

I'm at a standstill until I can copy realms. Given enough time, I'll probably comment that I need printing. Someone else will mention calendars or player journals or import/export or storyboards or UI changes. There'll be some armchair programming discussion on how easy this or that can be implemented. And then July will be here. There's the month in review.

We're sort of in a holding pattern until the next update as all the major issues have been commented on and are searchable. And I have a feeling that most of us that have developed complex realms haven't done anything "new" lately; rather we're adding on to the structures we've already established with nothing exciting for show-and-tell.

I've been busy attaching a projector to the roof. So I now have 3x display outputs and starting to wish realmworks supported that many screens and a faster more efficient way to update for of war within the tool.

I hit some sort of performance limit on my laptop. RW has slowed to a crawl on it when I open the realm I actually have active players in. So it is hard to really keep expanding the realm until I solve the issue or get a new laptop.

I use a powerful 17" gaming laptop with enough memory and a fast Core i7 CPU and RW is still not the fastest possible program. Don't expect too much, it's a non-trivial piece of software you are using.

I agree and am hate that RW is loosing the steam it once had. The energy and excitement of a software's users does wonders for its continued growth. When the boards get quiet its an indicator, I fear, of the overall health of the product. We'll see -- hope the CM comes out soon* and I am proven very wrong.

*By soon I mean if the next month.

I think it is mostly a combination of spring and the lack of a new update combined with the 5e SRD coming on line. I could be wrong but didn't we slow down last spring as well?

I know I haven't had much time to do a lot with the intrusions of real life the last couple of months.

More frequent updates would certainly create more activity on the forums and keep interest up. But it's also more time consuming to test and package incrementally. It's a trade-off.

I will admit I have been spending time figuring out how to make a user file for hero labs so I can incorporate the encounter system into my realm works realms. Still just slowly rolling along.

I'd rather wait until I can try out the improved RW, instead of getting constant updates, as they don't help me with my realm-building / maintenance. Though I appreciate those news as others as well!

I am at a complete standstill and have been for several months. I can no longer work on my three realms until I can move stuff around, which should come with the content market coming online. Hopefully soon, as it was stated "In a number of weeks, we’ll be releasing a major new version of Realm Works." six weeks ago today.

A "number of weeks" can be six weeks, or maybe thirty-seven weeks. I think that was intentionally left uncertain.

Actually it feels more like thirty-seven.

I am hip deep in putting my favored classic modules into RW as stand alone worlds. Since I decided to start with T1-4 Temple of Elemental Evil, I am very very very busy, and have plenty to keep me occupied until the next update. This means it is as close to original as I can, and can then be integrated to any campaign or realm.

HOWEVER, it is a pain to always have to mirror my custom categories, as opposed to being able to copy them from a realm to another.

It's my turn to GM, we round-robin so I only do it every couple of years. Without more robust player journal and interaction capabilities I haven't had much reason to open RealmWorks since my initial playing around.

I'm finishing up rebuilding our gaming table to include an in-table monitor for display of D20pro, with a wireless pad to pass around for people to control their own characters on the map. We'll be trying out D20pro on its own on Friday with a quick run through "We Be Goblins". Also I just converted a module (The Six Griffons Haunt) to RealmWorks to give it a try at the table using a combination of RealmWorks, D20pro, HeroLab, and SirenScape for the following session.

I do not have a use for Realm Works anymore. After 3 years of waiting and the constant delays, I do not think it is worth waiting for any more. I have looked into the forums every now and then to see if there are any updates and may continue to do so in the future but for now, I'm done caring. In November/December 2015 we got 'first quarter 2016', now we only get 'soon' (second quarter 2016 is almost over). I am a Kick-starter backer so I will have a life time subscription to the cloud, if it ever comes. At the current rate I may be dead before it is released; only time will tell.
