Is there any way to create an allies list from within the same race, i.e.

Chaos army list - select ruleset Lost and the Damned

Once in the Lost and the Damned then have a Chaos Marine unit as an
ally (together with it's own rulesets?)

Or will the Lost and the Damned have to go in as their own seperate race?

cheers

A race cannot be an ally of itself. You'd have to add them as their own
separate race (although you should be able to use the same units for both,
I think).

What exactly are you trying to use the allies mechanism to achieve? I'm not
familiar with the 'lost and the damned' stuff for 40k.

It was a last grasp hope really that I could ally a race with a subset
of the race - just trying to avoid having them on the main race list
.... I can use add them in as part of the same aug file and race tags
and membership scirpt to take care of the rest.

The Lost and the damned have their own set of units, as well as units
taken from the imperial guard lists as basic units, then they can take
chaos SM as allies but only using rules from one particular legion and
specific validation on the allied units as well - ho hum!! Will have
to split them off to their own race

thanks though

If you want to keep them out of the main army list normally, you could
always add a ruleset for them. That way if someone doesn't want to see
them, they can just disable that ruleset and have them not appear.

Hope this helps,

ah ha ... genius!!! It just needed a change in approach. Have
removed the LaTD frm the main legion list and created a new ruleset
for them where the user can specify either none LATD list, LATD with
no allies or LATD with allies. If they select the no ally option then
the CSM options are hidden, - all I need to do is hopefully play with
the ruleset tags so that when a Legion is chosen then the correct CSM
are shown, but the vanilla CSM are displaying and acting as they should do

cheers :-)

You might also take a look at the BFG files since I
had the same difficulty trying to figure out reserve
rules for Imperial and Chaos fleets...I ended up
assigning an option (with tag) to every unit that
designated which rulesets the unit receved the
"reserve" tag for...I then wrote rules that determined
how many reserves were leagal...Hope this helps...
