Adding Metamagic Feats to Created Items?

I'm not sure if you can apply Metamagic Feats to an Item yet...not 100%, but I suspect that you create the item at its higher spell level it would function as such.

Example:

A Cure Light Wounds Potion that is Empowered (+2 spell level) to do 1d8 + 5 (spell level 3, caster level 5) + 50% (empowered)

You couldn't, for example, Maximize a Cure Light Wounds potion because the spell level would be 4 and Potions can not be made at that spell level.

Right now I'm just creating custom items in the Item creator at the higher caster level and updating the descriptions.

Is there a better way?

-Custom/Metamagic Spell- should be the first item on the list when you're creating a custom wand/potion/scroll, and you can use that to apply metamagic feats to those categories of item.
