Adding Certain Items to Character Hanging New Version of Hero Lab

I've just taken the 5.1 (#424) update of Hero Lab, and adding a couple of abilities to a character is causing an immediate crash.

One is Rogue Talent -- Finesse Rogue (on a Chameleon/Scout Rogue with no race/attributes/etc. selected yet--I just level it high enough to add the Talent and do so, and it crashes). The other is Feat - Trapper's Setup. Same deal, adding it to a Rogue with high enough levels/skills to get the feat at all causes an immediate Crash in the software (has stopped responding > checking for solutions > close the program). Interestingly, adding Weapon Finesse via a Combat Trick Rogue Talent doesn't cause an issue--it seems to arise purely from choosing "Finesse Rogue" as the Talent.

Edit: Correction, adding Weapon Finesse as a Combat Trick Feat does cause the crash, if it's done after choosing Quick Trapsmith as my other Rogue Talent for Rogue (Chameleon/Scout) 5.

I'd be happy to email program logs or similar.

While I do have a sizeable custom data file I use for my homebrewed campaign, it doesn't modify any of these abilities, and again, I am not selecting a race that might cause problems (e.g., one of my custom ones). These errors did not occur before I began trying to build characters on 5.1 this afternoon.

I did so. Was mostly wondering if anyone else had run into something similar and could maybe offer insight into what's going on, and, ideally, what I could do to prevent it temporarily :-/

Sorry, did write the same message essentially for the forums and the bug report, so the wording probably sounds a little weird for both.

I did check and I get the crash when adding those. But I have no insight to offer as it hard crashes the program and isn't giving me a crash log like I usually receive.

Yeah, I've been poking around trying to find one. Additionally, I've still got my second license running on my desktop on version 5.0 #416, and all these feats/abilities work without a hitch. Meh, any way to downgrade to the most recent version?

Edit: Looks like HL keeps a log of recently downloaded updates in C:/Program Data/Hero Lab/download by default (if you changed your data files location, look in the new spot). Anyway, was able to downgrade to 5.0. It works fine on the laptop that was crashing under 5.1 again, now that I'm back on 5.0.

Someone reported to me about adding Two-Weapon fighting on a class I created as causing a hard crash. As it was nothing special I said to tell LW as both the feats and the "Class" Thing are coded by LW.

When I tried to duplicate the issue on my end it worked without any issues.

Just a note for strangeness I have noticed that if you twice double click in a selection window that HL dies. Just saw that a few times last night and wonder if that is in anyways related to this.

So I have a single mouse button that double clicks for me. If I see a selection of feats and hit the button twice boom down HL goes. If I highlight and then click on Add Close it works fine.

So out of curiosity how are you selecting the feat. Double clicking or clicking once and using "Add Close" button at the bottom?

Interesting. I was double clicking on them. Unable to re-test right now (just got finished running game with characters made with downgraded HL on laptop), but I'll probably have to give it a shot tomorrow with a re-updated version in order to send LWD support some files they want.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your reports of this issue! We've identified a fix for the problem and will hopefully be releasing it tomorrow, so please check back later this week for a Hero Lab 5.1a update. Once you see it, download and install it and this problem should be solved.

Sorry for the inconvenience!
