Adding abilities to named items

Is there a way to add abilities to named items, or make a custom item and add named item abilities to it?

For instance, if I wanted to make an Intelligent sword with the powers of a Sunblade in addition to other abilities.

Or make a Holy Avenger that was a warhammer?

I've fiddled around but can't find a way to to do it. Maybe I don't know the command or tab to use?
