Adding a class ability to another class's archetype

blahpers

New member
Greetings,

Title says it all: How do I go about adding one class's class ability to an archetype for another class? For example, how would I add a witch's hex ability or a ranger's favored terrain ability to an archetype for some other class? I've read the editor tutorials and tried reverse-engineering some other archetypes, but I haven't had much luck. The farthest I've gotten generated some error about linked pairs or something.

Thanks in advance!

Depending on which class's ability you're adding, and on which class your archetype is built, this can have varying degrees of "trickiness" (at least the way I've done it to build Gestalt classes).

I had to make copies of the abilities I wanted to add (in the Custom Abilities tab usually), and make those abilities available to my new archetype via the "Available to Class(es)" button on the left side.

The tricky part is that your first class will almost certainly have custom abilities in the "place" (Primary, Secondary, etc) that the abilities you're adding held on their original class. So you'll have to figure out where your archetype has a "place" for the new abilities and assign each one to that place as you copy them, using the "Not Primary Ability?" drop box, also on the left side just under the "Available to Class(es)" button.

Does that all make sense? I'm not sure how much you've used the editor already.

NOTE: If the ability you're copying is OGL (anything from the Core Rules), you can do a simple New (Copy), make the changes, Save & Test. If it's not (pretty much everything not in the Core Rulebook), you'll have to make each one with the New (Blank) button, and manually copy and past each component from the original to your new version.

Could you be a little more specific? Are you making a new archetype that grant's its class the ability to use another class' special abilities? What class is the archetype for, and what abilities did you want to add?

Or are you modifying an existing archetype to do this? If so, which archetype, and what abilities did you want to add?
