Accessing new content

Is there anything special required to access new content once it's purchased? I am not seeing content from any of the additional sources I've purchased.
 
If this is for a character you had created before purchasing the additional books, go to the Character/Settings tab, and turn on those books. Newly created characters should start out with the purchased packages turned on.

This question comes up over and over and over again, going back to HLC as well. I understand the rationale for the way it works, but feel like it could be made much clearer in the interface.

Yeah, how about a simple popup "You purchased new content - do you want it applied to all existing characters?"
Add buttons "Yes" and "No" and maybe a reminder to go to the settings if you only want it for certain chars.
