Greetings,

I installed AB 2.0 today (CD Version) and I noticed there was an
update available. I click on the action to receive the update. I get
the message:

'Retriving Updated File(s)' requires a properly installed version of
IE or Netscape. I have both installed:

IE 5.5
NE 4.7x

It never launches my browser or anything. Any suggestions?

I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this problem. It all works
great for me on all the computers I have tried this on. However, you are
the second person to report this problem, so something weird is going on. I
spent that past few hours scouring through the code to see if I could find
the problem, but I couldn't find anything amiss. I have modified the code
slightly to make it more explicit in one case, although the explicit case
is also supposed to be the default case (i.e. open the file), so this
should have no impact (unless something is weird on your machine). This
change will be included in the V2.0b update that should be released in a
few days. Please try this again after V2.0b is released and let me know if
it is fixed.

Here is the direct URL to where the V2.0a update is currently available:
http://www.wolflair.com/Army_Builder/Product_Downloads/product_downloads.htm

As a test, please click on the Start menu in the lower left corner, then
click on Run. Then copy and paste the above URL into the dialog that
appears. Click on OK and see if your browser takes you to the proper web
page. If not, then the issue is a configuration problem on your computer.
If it works, then something is screwy with how AB is triggering the
web-page vis-a-vis your system. Hopefully, the problem is a matter of the
default case not being what it's supposed to be, in which case the change
to an explicit reference that I have just made may fix things.

Hope this helps,
Rob

Were you able to view HTML files and web-pages from within AB when you
weren't able to access the web-site?

Is there anything different about your system that you can think of that
might have contributed to things starting to work suddenly? Did you install
any new software? Did you change any browser settings? Anything you can
think of would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Rob

Mine was doing this same error when I first installed/upgraded to 2.0a so I
just did my update checking manually. I just tried it now however and it
worked fine. I'm so confused...

My system stats if it helps...

Windows version (e.g. Win98)
Win2kP w/ SR1

Browser(s) installed and versions (e.g. IE5.0)
IE 5.5

Directory where AB is installed (e.g. "C:\ArmyBuilder")
F:\program files\armybuilder

Type of web connection (e.g. dial-up, DSL, etc.)
dial-up ISDN bonded

Whether connection was already live when attempted
Yes because during setup I told it manual.

Can you view HTML files from within AB (e.g. view the tutorial via Help
menu)?
Yes.

Can you view other web-pages from within AB (e.g. Help->Visit Wolf Lair
menu)?
Yes.

Can you successfully invoke the following URL via the Start menu?
http://www.wolflair.com/Army_Builder/Product_Downloads/product_downloads.htm
[Click on Start, then Run, then paste this URL, then click OK. Does it
work?]
Yes.

One other thing... I got confused at one point and and re-updated my system
with the same version 2.0a. Had not attempted to go to the sight again
since. Was there possibly a change to 2.0a that was so minor that it didn't
require a revision number change that I ended up downloading/installing?
Could I be totally confused and had the problem when I did my initial
install but after "upgrading" it was fixed? Could it be there was a change
at the website itself that might have caused this problem to fix itself?
Just trolling at this point, have no idea if any of this is useful.

DOH! Wait a minute!!! *smack to the forehead* When I -initially- had the
problem I was still on Win98 SE, w/ IE5.0 and on C: drive. It's been a bit
since then (I upgraded on release day *s*), so my memory is a little fuzzy
on the exact order/OS I started receiving the errors and they fixed
themselves. *sigh* I should go back to bed and start over. TGIF!

Hope this helps, because AB rocks! I literally use it everyday (I do take
the occasional break *s*) either to prepare an army, to gather intel on
opponents, or just for plain ol' quick reference. Without it, my gaming
group members always had some little error in their army lists and it took
forever to prep for play. GW should ship AB bundled with their boxed sets,
imho. I know, I know... "Ya' right!" =)

My one little teeny tiny miniscule complaint is that I always have to have
my 1.4 CD in my only CD-ROM when I'm running AB. Your messin' with my tunes
man! =) Is there anyway around this? Can I copy-to then install from my
HD and keep the install files in place afterwords or is there some registry
hack to fix this? I promise I won't tell if you can help a brotha out
(because AB is worth every penny and then some). Pretty please? I know, I
know... "Ya' right!" =) Anyway my many thanks to the AB team for helping
the gamers out without putting the squeeze on us like some other
unmentionable company that I forGot What there name is at the moment. =)

-Dennis

Actually, that wasn't the problem I was having (oops!). It was when I first

funny until I disabled it. And now that I'm trying to recreate the problem,

Rob,

It never states which library it couldn't find. I only get this
error when I try to do it from the Start/run. If I try to access any
link inside of AB, I get the message that I need valid browser.
