4E GSL

Also, Lone Wolf may still be able to license D&D 4E from WotC. I expect the licensing fees would be obscene, but it is theoretically possible.

Not necessarily so. In order to use the GSL, a company will have to register with WotC and acknowledge the terms of the GSL. And the GSL may very well state that the licensee must not sell products using the OGL in any way.

Still selling OGL-products would be a breach.

And not one of WotC's SRD is public domain. Alls SRDs are owned by them. As soon as you use something from the SRD, you are bound by the OGL.

Oops, forgot one update of sorts: There is some direct communication going on between WotC's Senior Brand Manager Scott Rouse and Clark Peterson from Necromancer Games about exactly this effect.

Wizards apparently still has a great deal of disagreement going on internally regarding how everything will work. So it's best that we all wait until the dust settles within Wizards and they officially decide how the process will be handled. Once they publish something official that is both finalized and complete, we can then review it and decide how to proceed. We'll also be consulting our legal counsel at that time, just to make sure we don't get anything confused on our end. :-)

Wizards has stated that all the official and final details will not be made public until June, so we have to sit tight. Since late last year, we've been discussing contingency plans internally for the myriad ways this can all play out, but it's all just conjecture at this point. Any decisions before getting finalize material from Wizards would be premature, so let's all wait until we know something absolute from Wizards before pursuing this topic further.
 
Committing thread necromancy here...

Out of curiosity, since my FLGS is running D&D 4th edition demos today, has there been any official word? While D&D 4th edition doesn't pose a heinous logistical challenge (at least compared to some games), it would be awesome if Hero Lab could support 4th edition.
 
WotC stated a little over a month ago that the GSL was going to be overhauled, and a new version would be released soon. There has been no word on what will be changed, nor when the new GSL will be released.

The original word was that the revised GSL release was "imminent" as of just before GenCon. Then there was the big layoff at WotC, which included people directly involved in the GSL process. A post by Scott Rouse on the WotC forums a week or so ago indicated that he was swamped and that it would be at least another couple of weeks before the revisions were published. We're all still waiting for them to be made available, at which point we'll be re-assessing things on our end.
