More Eberron stuff

Okay, I am running an Eberron Campaign, obviously. I am using ShadowChemosh's Eberron Campaign file, but I am expanding it with more stuff. Right now I am playing around with Ethnicities. I was wondering something. I know that the Dragonmarked Houses are a culture unto themselves, so I was thinking about having the different Houses as Ethnicities. Not sure if I can tie that into any feat prerequisites, though. Eventually I am working on the Dragonmark feats, actually already started.

I would think that the Dragonmarked houses would work better as factions actually. At least that seems to fit better than Ethnicities. I have not tested this but I assume that faction will put its tag on to the Hero and you can then test for that tag in a script.

I'd agree with ShadowChemosh on this, after all, not all members of the dragonmarked houses manifest dragonmarks, right?

I agree too. :)

Faction would be the better way than ethnicities to represent the houses. Anyone, Dragonmarked or not can be a member of a House and that just screams 'faction' to me :)

Not all members do. The reason I toyed with Ethnicity is they really are presented as have a subculture no mater what nation they live in. I thought of factions, too. I even thought of using both. Some are born into the House, while others are not actual members of the house, but are always associated with them. That would be like mercenaries that always associate with the Sentinels. I'm not sure there is a wrong way for this, since the situation is really unique to Eberron.

Maybe, but I like the input. I think the only thing I am reluctant with Factions is that I never used them. Haven't seen the implementation on HeroLab. I have checked the box to use them, but haven't seen how to add one to a character.

Factions are in the background tab, you add the faction of choice, go to journal and select it from the pull down. Not hard to use them. They are a good way of keeping track how the characters have interacted with Houses and which houses like or dislike the characters. THey are not that hard to implement honestly.

Another question, since I am on Dragonmark Houses. I have made the Least Dragonmark feat. I have made it so you select which mark you have (ie, Mark of Making, Shadow, etc). I don't think there is enough menu options to allow you to choose between the Spell-like abilities when you choose the feat. Would it be better to actually make a Magic Item for each Dragonmark?

Suggestion: don't assume that everyone who might want to reply to to will log in over the weekend. Friday afternoon - Sunday night doesn't leave time for anyone who sneaks looks at this forum from work to respond to you, and doesn't leave time for those who had a busy weekend.

Actually, the only reason I said anything is that some of the people that did respond had been on quite a few times.

I ask again. Is this the option to use on this?

For those, like myself, who are not that familiar with Eberron, could you give an example of how the dragonmark works? Might give us a better idea of if the Magic Item route is best or if there was another way to handle it.

I think having a different Feat for each house maybe better. Plus easier to check for later in scripts. Then have the first feat in the chain only display the Spell-Like abilities of that House.

There are several other ways you could do but honestly I think that is the easiest method actually.

P.S. - I am about let out the door with v1.4 of Eberron so in the future I would be happy to add in your stuff to the data set.

Thanks for the advice. I was going to send you some stuff when I get more entered into the file. I have the Kalashtar and need to reenter all of the religions (lost them because I goofed up). Was working on making the Spellcarved PrC into a Magus Archetype (seems to make more sense for that). Entering in feats & other stuff.

The version I just released has 20 deities entered plus the Kalashtar that I linked to work with Psionics Unleashed. Worth checking out so you don't have to redo everything. :)

I already updated and I am glad I don't need to reenter the dieties. I am glad about the domains as well. He only missed adding the ability to just worship The Sovereign Host, or The Dark Six. Minor detail, really. I have a slightly different take on the Kalashtar, but again, minor. I'll concentrate on the Spellcarved Magus and the Dragonmarks.
