Multiple Licenses - Multiple Users?

Steve Geddes

New member
Hi there - this has probably been addressed somewhere but I am too old to understand how to get search functions to work properly. :(

Is it possible/permissible to use the second license on a friend's computer? And to buy additional licenses and give one to each member of our playing group?

I understand they would get my password but trust isn't a serious issue amongst the people I'm thinking of sharing with. I was just wondering if the license is for a single user on multiple systems or if a 'joint license' amongst several individuals is permissible and within the spirit of the agreement.

Cheers
Steve

I think the license is for a single person. the secondary license is so you can install it on 2 of your computers, such as a laptop and a desktop. by sharing the license i think you might be in violation of the software agreement.

you should just have your friend pick up a copy of HL for themselves.

Cheers - this was my first thought too. The trouble is they're not going to.

$100 (for the full PF version) is too much for my players. I read a post somewhere else suggesting how cheap Hero Labs was on the basis of this multiple license arrangement but wanted to get clarification from someone official. My impression was that it seemed to violate the spirit of the agreement.

I should probably email them directly, I guess.

Basically, Lone Wolf isn't going to try to detect that you're lending your license out to others, but the only way to set it up is to install it with your user data, which means that there's not really a way to prevent them from going on to use your license to buy extensions, etc, since it's assumed that all of the licenses are you.

Well, first off I'm not an official spokemen for HL or LW. I'm just a user who enjoys the product. As for the cost being $100, thats not really true. the cost for the PF core is free with the product. if you wish to purchase the expansion data then there is a cost associated with that, but you dont have to buy them. you can use the PF module that comes with the product to create any character from the core book. if you want to use the other information, you could either purchase it or input the information yourself and save the costs. as for me i would rather pay someone $5.00 to save me a month worth of coding.

as for the PF expansions, its the same sort of thing that all RPG companies do. they sell core books and then sell more books with add on material. if you would buy an expansion book for $39.95, why not buy the same material for $10.00?

Yeah, don't misunderstand me - I'm very happy with the price and think it's completely reasonable. The fact the expansions are optional (since you can manually enter whatever you need) is a nice additional feature for those who have time but less money. In my case, I'm like you - I'd much prefer to pay a professional to do it all for me (and probably better than I would) rather than slog away for hours and hours just to save $70.
